San Ignacio (aprox.
(foyaitas, pulaskitas, nordmarkitas, sienitas, carbonatitas, etc.)
carácter epitermal superficial, atribuible a fuentes termales
the same time, most productive was the San Ignacio orogenesis era
(approx. 1400-1280 Ma), with an intense tectonic metamorphic and
magmatic activity which gave place to the San Ignacio of San
Simón lodes and saddle reefs, syn- to late kynematic, of mesothermal
gold, and subsidiarily, of epithermal manganese epizonal
schists (Pitfield 1983, Litherland et al. 1986).
Much later, during the Upper Jurassic-Cretaceous, an already
intercratonal, taphrogenic anorogenic cycle with continental reach
took place (fragmentation of the Gondwana, opening of the
Atlantic), which had more visible results: at the SSE end of the
belt, the intrusion of alkaline magmas and the later injection of
hydrothermal fluids along the deep crustal tension crevasses of
variable trend. The alkaline intrusives (foyalites, pulaskites,
nordmarkites, syenites, carbonatites, etc.) comprise the 15 plutons
and multiple satellite igneous dikes of the Velasco alkaline
Complex, which were emplaced about 140 Ma ago, during the
Jurassic-Cretaceous transition, almost all of them are aligned over
the SW-NE axis of the pressumed aborted rift, as well as the anular
subvolcanic dikes and sporadic agglomeradic necks of the Manomó
Neo-Cretaceous Carbonatitic Complex, over the NE extension of
the same axis, which were sillicified and later weakly mineralized
into litophyllic elements (U-rare earths-Th-Nb) and Au (Hawkins
1982, Litherland et al. 1986). With regards to the post-intrusive
hydrothermal phase, in a large portion of the shield, it was
translated by the formation of a countless number of extensive and
very powerful multidirectional brecciated quartz dikes (up to 100
m). These dikes, considered as sub-contemporary to the Manomó
intrusive complex, around which there are plenty of them, and just
like it, have experienced a penetrative hypogene alteration,
followed by a brecciation and the late injection of ferruginous silica
veins in the fissures (Appleton et al. 1983). In the Hunachaca
Range, small jasperoid brecciated dikes (Litherland 1982) and, at
Cerro Negrito, even vein remains of banded acicular cryptomelane,
related to such dikes; making up a sub-economic Mn preconcentration,
such vein deposit is superficial epithermal in nature, and
can attributed to active vulcanogene thermal springs during the
final years of the Cretaceous riftogenic cycle.
In the course of the Cenozoic, the primary manganese
mineralization of Cerro Negrito was re-mobilized by several
erosion-post-epirogenic lateritization phases, and was specially
enriched up to a virtually commercial extent by the first and
probably most penetrative of these phases, which probably formed
the vast Pega Pega peneplanation surface during the Oligocene.
The latter is nothing but the South American Surface of Brazil
(Litherland 1982).
Finally, the Quaternary erosion of the Meso-Proterozoic gold veins
of the San Simón Range originated a series of proximal placers,
mainly of current riverbeds and terraces, and occasionally
paleocanal colluvial or elluvial placers. Although modest, these
placers are the largest metallic beds exploited so far at the
metallogenic belt of the Paraguá Craton (Biste et al. 1991).
