subir a 210 mg/m 3.
20 t/m 2 ."
Currently, several companies exploit the alluvial gold ores at the
Madre de Dios and Madera (Nueva Esperanza) rivers, as well as in
other rivers of the Departments of Pando, Beni and La Paz. There
is no information available on the annual yield. The tenors are low,
between 2.4 and 72.9 mg/m 3 , although the conglomeradic levels
can reach up to 210 mg/m 3. (Hérail et al., 1991): Data from Peru
(Paredes, 1991) indicate a production of 7,000 kg of gold per year
at the Madre de Dios River.
The main economic challenge for the development of the basin is
the oil. Analyses of samples collected at wells drilled in the area
indicate the presence of excellent Devonian source rock (Moretti et
al., 1994, 1995). Although the generation conditions are present,
the main difficulty is that, due to a weak tectonic action, there are
no significant structural oil traps and seismic exploration must be
oriented towards the search for stratigraphic traps. This task entails
and enormous economic investment, which must be evaluated in
light of the possible existing reserves (preliminar value of 0,5
Mbb).
Based on the little information available, a complete analysis if the
area’s potential was submitted by Moretti et al. (1995), with the
following results: “The Lower Paleozoic is absent, and the Upper
Silurian is only a few meters thick. The Lower and Middle
Devonian (Tequeje Formation) has low potential (S1 + S2 average
of 3 mg HC/g), and reduced thickness (300 m at the Pando X-1
well). Since the basin gets deeper towards the south, a series’
thickness of about 500 m represents better the drainage area. This
leads to a SPI of de 3 t/m 2 (80% of the layers is shale). The Upper
Devonian (Tomachi Formation) has an excellent potential, with a
S1 + S2 average over 25 mg HC/g, in the first 250, and 200 m
above, a S1 + S2 average of 10 mg HC/g. Thus, the total SPI result
is 16,5 t/m 2 . The Carboniferous (Retama Group) is thin and has
little potential. The Permian is also thin, with only a few meters of
source rock. Adding up the total influences, the basin’s final SPI
amounts to 20 t/m 2 ."
