Pucapristis branisi, tampoco da elementos definitivos al respecto;
los abundantes gasterópodos y pelecípodos son aparentemente
lacustres.
Ciclo Andino II
transita a ríos meandrantes, bajo condiciones climáticas cálidas y
septentrional.
Salla y Lacayani. (Marshall & Sempere, 1991)
Beccar & Toledo (1990) indicate that it would be too daring to
assign a marine or continental nature to it, since there are no clear
and definitive diagnostic elements. The presence of stromatoliths
suggests protected offshore and mud plain environments with a
weak to moderate churned waters. The upper sequence indicates
that the environment becomes a little deeper (maximum deepening),
though maintaining its shallow nature. The fauna in this
formation: Gasteroclupea branisai and Pucapristis branisi, does
not provide definitive elements to this respect, either. The abundant
gasteropods and pelecypods are apparently lacustrine.
Andean II Cycle
In unconformity over the different Subandean Mesozoic units lie
the continental sandstones of the Bala Formation (Schlagintweit,
1939). This unit is defined by sequences of slightly micaceous
sandstones, displaying thin conglomeradic levels with support
matrix at the base. Pellitic levels are interbedded, and occasionally,
carbonous levels with trunk remanents and pyrite,
calcpyrite and sulphur levels can be observed (Beccar & Toledo,
1990). The passage to the upper unit is transitional and defined at
the point where the red pellites definitively become dominant,
and the sandstone banks become more isolated and lenticular.
Environmentally, it correspods to a fluvial continental development
of arenaceous non-cyclic braided rivers shifting to
meandering rivers under hot and humid climate conditions.
In the northern Subandean sequence, the Quendeque Formation
(Schlagintweit, 1939) continues in uncorformity and transitionally.
It is a continental fluvial and lacustrine unit. It corresponds mostly
to sequences of meandering and anastomosed rivers, deposited in a
foreland basin of the Eastern Cordillera. Lithologically, it is
represented by brick red claystones and siltstones with very
subordinate interbedding of very fine and lenticular silty, slightly
micaceous and calcareous sandstone packages (Beccar & Toledo,
1990). The top is very nitid due to the erosive contact with the
Charqui Formation. Sequentially, it represents the ending of the
sequence that starts with the Bala Formation. At Pluma River, an
affluent of the Sécure River (Cochabamba), fragments of
Trachytherus subandinus were found (Villarroel et al., 1994). The
Trachytherus genera has a biochron restricted to the Upper
Oligocene–Lower Miocene. Other species in this genus were
described at Salla and Lacayani (Marshall & Sempere, 1991).
