COMPENDIO DE GEOLOGIA DE BOLIVIA Evolución Andina El ciclo Andino comienza cerca de 200 Ma atrás en el Liásico. Desde el primer evento andino, el enfoque del arco magmático se trasladó progresivamente hacia el este, con una velocidad promedio de alrededor de 1 km por 1 Ma. Este diferente desarrollo tectónico y magmático surgió de las interacciones de placas a nivel global. Los dos primeros arcos magmáticos se formaron antes de la apertura del Atlántico Sur. El cambio a la tectónica predominantemente compresiva se inició por la apertura del Atlántico Sur y el movimiento hacia el oeste de la placa sudamericana. La disgregación del Gondwana fue precedido en el Triásico medio a tardío por domos, depresiones y artesas intraplaca. Existen depósitos epicratónicos conservados en muchas áreas de Sudamérica, encontrándose separados de los sedimentos Paleozóicos por una superficie de truncamiento regional (Uliana & Biddle, 1988). La apertura del Atlántico Sur durante el Jurásico resultó en el rifting y en cambios dramáticos en el marco tectónico predominante, a nivel de todo el Gondwana. Después de la disgregación del Gondwana, la placa continental sudamericana se movió hacia el oeste, dejando atrás a su margen continental oriental pasivo, el Océano Sudatlántico que se ensanchaba lentamente. En su margen occidental, fue empujado contra las placas oceánicas del Océano Pacífico, el que, desde entonces, fue subducido debajo del continente sudamericano. La evolución geológica a lo largo de este margen continental activo es el resultado de las interacciones de las placas continentales y oceánicas definidas por velocidades de placa, ángulos de colisión entre placas, la tasa de subducción y el ángulo con el que la placa oceánica es subduccionada por debajo del continente (ángulo de subducción). Estos parámetros cambiaron con frecuencia durante la evolución andina. Desde los inicios del Ciclo Andino, las actividades magmáticas están estrechamente asociadas con los diferentes arcos magmáticos relacionados con la subducción, con la extrusión y emplazamiento de lavas predominantemente calcoalcalinas y plutones de composición básica a ácida y diferenciados derivados del manto. Desde entonces, desarrollaron cuatro diferentes sistemas de arco magmático, cada uno desplazado hacia el este en relación al anterior. La migración hacia el este ocurrió a consecuencia de la destrucción y erosión tectónica en el margen continental activo (Scheuber & Reutter,1992, Fig. 10.2). Andean Evolution The Andean cycle began about 200 Ma ago in the Lias. Since the first andean event the focus of the magmatic arc moved progressively eastward with an average velocity of about l km per 1 Ma. This different tectonic and magmatic development resulted from global plate interactions. The first two magmatic arcs are formed prior to the opening of the South Atlantic. The change to predominantly compressional tectonics was initiated by the opening of the South Atlantic and the westward motion of the South American plate. The breakup of Gondwana was proceeded in middle to late Triassic by intra-plate domes, sags and troughs. Epicratonic deposits are preserved in many areas of South America, they are separated from the Paleozoic sediments by a surface of regional truncation (Uliana & Biddle, 1988). The opening of the South Atlantic during the Jurassic resulted in Gondwana-wide rifting and dramatic changes in the predominant tectonic setting. After the Gondwana breakup the South-American continental plate moved westwards leaving behind its eastern passive continental margin the slowly widening south-Atlantic ocean. At its western margin it is pushed against the oceanic plates of the Pacific Ocean, which is subducted since then underneath the South-American continent. The geologic evolution along this active continental margin is a result of the interactions of the continental and oceanic plates defined by plate-velocities, collision-angle between the plates, the subduction rate and the angle, with which the oceanic plate is subducted underneath the continent (subduction angle). These parameters changed frequently during the Andean evolution. Since the beginning of the Andean Cycle, the magmatic activities are closely associated with the subduction-related different magmatic arcs with the extrusion and emplacement of predominantly calc-alkaline lavas and plutons of basic to acid composition and mantle-derived differentiates. Since then, four different magmatic arc systems, each one displaced towards the east in relation to the previous one, developed. The eastward migration was a consequence of the destruction and tectonic erosion at the active continental margin (Scheuber & Reutter,1992, Fig. 10.2). 201
