sodalita asociadas a intrusiones nefelinosieníticas y carbonatíticas
plutones epizonales oligo-miocenos expuestos (Illimani, Tres Cruces)
sectorialmente superpuesta hacia el oeste a la faja estañífera;
Associated to the northeast to Neo-Triassic to Eo-Jurassic granitoid
plutons of the central part of the Cordillera Real and other high
ranges that extend it towards the northwest, the marginal auriferous
quartz veins can be correlated with the intracrustal (transtensional?)
geodynamics of the begining of the Mesozoic, the impact of which
was stronger on the neighbor tin belt.
A new remarkable change in the geostructural environment,
marked by the generalized continental riftogenesis that came along
with and followed the opening of the south Atlantic during the
Lower Cretaceous, is typical of tye Upper Mesozoic in the external
and ensialic foreland basin, nowadays occupied by the Bolivian
Eastern Andes. With this proto-Andean Cretaceous rifting and the
resulting crustal megafractures, in the central and meridional
portions of the polymetallic belt under discussion, the Ni-Co-Bi-
U... veins associated to Eo-Paleozoic pellitic series of the Tapacarí
area (Troëng & Riera–Kilibarda (eds.) 1997, Quiroga 1977), on the
one side, and the Fe veins in the Cretaceous basalts of Betanzos
and Ravelo, on the other, have been linked to concentrations of
lithophylous elements (U-Ti-Nb-TR, etc.) and sodalite associated
to hypabyssal nepheline-syenitic and carbonatitic intrusions of the
Alkaline Province of Ayopaya (Avila-Salinas 1989), which also
contains kimberlite stacks dated at 98 Ma by Aitcheson (in
Redwood 1993) and gabbro sills at 75 Ma, according to Choque-
Mamani (1993).
During the Upper Oligocene to the Lower Miocene, the major
geotectonic phase caused by the Pacific-South American
convergence regime, had metallogenic repercusions, which were
apparently softened at the eastern polimetallic belt of the Bolivian
Andes. There indeed, the only outcropping metalliferous deposits
deriving or that could eveltually derive from it are those ore Au-(Sb)
and Pb-Ag-Zn found in the north-central Bolivian stretch of this belt,
where some of them are associated to the exposed or unexposed
Oligo-Miocene epizonal plutons (Illimani, Tres Cruces) of the
Eastern Cordillera in the Lambate district, among others, and the rest
to Ordovician distal psammopellitic sequences in the Cocapata,
Independencia, Quioma-Asientos (?), and others districts (see Troëng
& Riera–Kilibarda (eds.) 1997).
From the south of Potosí to the vicinity of Jujuy, Argentina, the goldantimonium
and lead-zink belt of the Eastern Cordillera is clearly
subdivided into two parallel strips with a general N-S trend (see
Troëng et al. (eds.) 1996, Troëng et al. 1993).
?? an internal (western) strip with Sb-(Au) called South-Bolivian
Antimonium Province by Ahlfeld (1952), known as one of the
world’s richest belts in this mineral (cf. the Caracota, Churata,
Poconota, Palca Khocha, Churquini, Chilcobija, Candelaria, Rosa
de Oro, and Sucre deposits, etc.), and towards the west,
superimposed in the sector over the tin belt;
?? an external (eastern) strip with Zn-Pb-(Ag) and less economic
interest (cf. the Wara Wara, Padcoyo, Toropalca districts of the
Tupiza-Villazón region, etc.).
At both strips, the mineralization appears in the form of
unconforming veins or (for Sb-Au) synkinematic conforming
mantles and saddle reefs (Ludington et al. 1992), controlled by
