REVISTA TECNICA DE YPFB VOL. 18 (1-2) JUNIO 2000 Bolivia, controlado por una diversidad de procesos de actividad tectono-termal, de sedimentación terrígena epicontinental y de erosión postectónica relacionados con las fases sucesivas de diastrofismo andino desde el final del Paleógeno hasta el Reciente. Por último, la acumulación de aluviones en la llanura Chaco- Beniana, consecuencia de varios episodios neógenos a holocenos de reajuste isostático postcinemático y epirogénico (o aún de deshielo interglaciar) en los Andes Orientales y su piedemonte, estuvo acompañada, en el extremo norte del país, por la formación recurrente y en gran escala de placeres fluviátiles antiguos y modernos de oro procedente de los afloramientos paleozoicos mineralizados de la Cordillera Oriental. Dadas las evoluciones metalogénicas complejas y dispares de las grandes regiones fisiográficas y geológicas de Bolivia, la sinopsis que sigue tiene el propósito de explicar la yacimentología y los ciclos de mineralización de cada una de ellas a la luz de su historia geodinámica específica, enfocada dentro de un contexto geotectónico global. ESCUDO PRECAMBRICO El escudo precámbrico boliviano, cuyos recursos minerales fueron apenas explorados y explotados en el pasado (con excepción, hasta cierto punto, del oro), se ha convertido recientemente en uno de los más concurridos campos de prospección minera del país. Las fajas metálicas precámbricas Tres fajas metalíferas mayores se suceden subparalelamente de N a S en el escudo proterozoico boliviano (fig. 9.1). De orientación general NW-SE y de edad media decreciente hacia el S, están estrechamente ligadas, tanto espacial como genéticamente, a los cinturones orogénicos de San Ignacio, Sunsas y Tucavaca. Se trata de la faja auro-manganesífera del cratón de Paraguá, de la faja polimetálica de Sunsas y de la faja ferro-manganesífera de Mutún- Tucavaca. Los distintivos metalogénicos de cada una se hallan resumidos a continuación de acuerdo al orden cronológico de las épocas de mineralización y a la perspectiva global geodinámica de esta reseña. Faja auro-manganesífera del cratón de Paraguá Esta franja metalífera fronteriza de difícil acceso y de limitado interés económico cuyo eje fisiográfico es el valle del río Paraguá se desarrolla por 300 km, con 150 km de anchura máxima en territorio boliviano, desde la Serranía San Simón al NNW hasta la Provincia Alcalina de Velasco al SSE. A pesar de su aparente unidad geotectónica, es una provincia mineral compósita, “heterotípica” y “heterocrónica” (cf. Routhier 1980) por cuanto engloba, dispersos hacia sus márgenes, depósitos de diversos tipos, metales y edades. diversity of processes including tectonic-thermal activity, epicontinental terrigenous sedimentation and post-tectonic erosion, related to succesive Andean diatrophism phases, from the end of the Paleogene until the Recent. Last, at the northern end of the country, in the Eastern Andes and their piedmont, the accumulation of alluvia at the Chaco-Beni Plain, as consequence of several Neogene to Holocene isostatic, post-kynematic, and epirogenic readjustment (or even interglacier defrosting) episodes, was accompanied by the recurrent and large-scale formation of old and modern fluviatile gold placers, originated in the mineralized Paleozoic outcrops of the Eastern Cordillera. Given the complex and uneven metallogenic evolutions of the large physiographic and geologic regions of Bolivia, the aim of the following synopsis is to explain the study of reservoirs and the mineralization cycles of each of them, in light of their specific geodynamic histories, and focused on the global geotectonic context. PRE-CAMBRIAN SHIELD With mineral resources barely explored and exploited in the past (to some extent with the exception of gold), the Bolivian Pre- Cambrian shield recently became on of the most attended mineral prospecting fields in the country. The Pre-Cambrian Metallic Belts Three major metalliferous belts follow one another subparallely from N to S in the Bolivian Proterozoic shield (fig. 9.1). With a general NW-SE trend, and a mean age decreasing towards the south, they are spatially and genetically linked to the San Ignacio, Sunsas and Tucavaca orogenic belts. These belts are the goldmanganese belt of the Paraguá Craton, the polymetallic belt of Sunsas and the iron-manganese belt of Mutún-Tucavaca. The metallogenic features of each are summarized as follows, according to the chronological order of the mineralization eras, and the global geodynamic perspective in this overview. Gold-manganese Belt of the Paraguá Craton With its physiographic axis at the Paraguá River valley, this frontier metalliferous belt of difficult access and limited economic interest unfolds for 300 km from the San Simón range to the NNW up to the Alkaline Province of Velasco to the SSE, with a maximum width of 150 km in Bolivian territory. In spite of its apparent geotectonic unit, it is a “heterotypical” and “heterochronical” composite mineral province (cf. Routhier 1980) since it includes deposits of a variety of types, metals, and ages, which become dispersed close to the margins. 168
