a suroeste. Esta unidad fue depositada durante el Emsiano-
Fameniano basal.
influencia mixta, marina y fluvial.
mbbp.
sedimentos cordilleranos:
present in the basin.
Paleontological data (Moretti et al., 1995, p. 758) indicate that, in
the Pando-X1 well, at a depth of 1,935 m, that is, in the first meters
of the base of the Tequeje Formation (Canedo-Reyes, 1960),
Pridolian palynomorphs (Upper Silurian) would be present. This
situation has not been established definitiviely, and the question of
whether the Silurian is better developed in other sectors of the
basin, and whether the Tequeje Formation starts during the Upper
Silurian or if the presence of these palynomorphs is due to
overworded sediments, still remains. Anyway, the information
establishes that the basin was covered by Silurian waters.
Over the Brazilian basement rocks, approximately 220 meters of
fluvial sediments of the Tequeje Formation deposited, starting out
with transgressive sandstones, a basal thin conglomerate, followed
by a pellitic sequence. These rocks were deposited in a canal infill
system (Isaacson et al., 1995).
At a 1627.91 m depth, from a Tequeje Formation core, remanents
of a brachiopod, very close to a Schuchertella sp. from the Lower
Devonian, were collected (Racheboeuf, personal comm., 1991).
These rocks were later covered by deltaic deposits attributed to the
Tomachi and Toregua formations.
The Tomachi Formation (Oller, 1981) corresponds to subaereal to
subaqueous deposits of a lower deltaic plain, and consists of
distributary canals and distributary junction bars showing the
prograding geometry towards the northeast-southwest basin. This
unit was deposited during the Emsian-Basal Famennian.
According to Peters et al. (1997) and Carpenter (1997), the source
rocks of the Tomachi Formation are among the riches oil sources in
the world.
In the region, the Cordilleran Cycle ends with sediments of the
Toregua Formation (López-Murillo 1967), which pertain mainly to
distributing and interdistributing canals with mixed sea and fluvial
influence. This unit was deposited during the Famenian-
Tournaisian. The limit between the Tomachi and Toregua
formations correspond to an erosive unconformity, and is located at
deep of 1241 meters, and the Devonian-Carboniferous limit, at
1137 meters deep.
Fossil fragments of other cores from the Pando X-1 well, among
others the one located at 1501.52 meters deep (Tomachi
Formation), were sent to France by the author. As a result, the
presence of fish scales of actinopterigian palaeonisciforms was
established, and the poorly preserved print of a conodont (Janvier,
personal comm., 1991), which suggested a Famennian to Lower
Carboniferous age.
The palinological analysis of cores and cuttings of the sediment
samples of the Cordillerano Cycle at the Pando X1 well, conducted
by YPFB (Lobo, 1991 - reports : 2422, 2429, 2433, 2441, 2453 and
Pérez, 1993 - report: 2580), as well as the MOBIL analysis (1992),
enable to carry out the following summary on the age of the
Cordillerano sediments:
