Ried Grillenparz, schist in Ried Steiner Gaisberg
and Ried Steiner Kögl (schist terraces),
and loess over gneiss in the terraces of the Ried
Kremser Wachtberg. A historic prime vineyard
was recently purchased: the Ried Schreck in
Stein. The Riesling from this schist site promises
a mineral fireworks – Krems rocks with
wine.

Medium yellow with silver highlights. Pineapple and mango
mingle with smoky mineral components and nuances of
mandarin zest. Highly elegant and complex with delicate
honey-laced peach fruit enhanced with juicy acidity in a
taut structure. The multifaceted finish is sweetly extracted
and very long. Extraordinary ageing potential.

Medium green-yellow with silver highlights. Ripe yellow apple,
tobacco nuances, delicate orange zest and subtle herbal
spice. Very elegant with juicy acid enhancing the refreshing,
silky texture, sweet apple and quince flavours. Salty minerals
join in on the very long finish. Superb ageing potential.

Everything changed in 2008 at Lesehof
Stagård – not only for Urban Stagård,
but also for his wife Dominique, who
jointly manage this wine estate. They took over
the winery from Urban’s parents and from the
first day onward completely transformed
everything. Contrary to the generations before
them, they no longer wanted to produce wines
that simply quenched thirst, but rather wines
that could tell the story of their ideas, the vines
and the vineyards. They immediately converted
to organic cultivation and defined goals to
achieve this step-by-step. They aspired to the
production of bold, exciting and authentic
wines – wines for which evolution and tradition
were two sides of the same coin. Most of
all, they wanted to produce Riesling, because
they simply preferred its taste to any other variety.
This is significant not only because their
passionate approach to winemaking is so different,
but because Riesling is also the predestined
variety for this area. Riesling’s affinity to
meagre, rocky soils, late-ripening sites and the
