Gneiss meets schist, Loibenberg meets<br />
Kögl and Kremstal meets Wachau. Rainer<br />
Wess produces wines from both regions.<br />
The winery itself is located in the Sandgrube<br />
vineyard near Krems. The majority of the<br />
15 vineyard hectares (37 acres) are located in<br />
the Wachau on the Loibenberg vineyard slopes<br />
or at the foot of the Loibenberg. Together with<br />
fruit from vineyards in Stein, Kögl and Pfaffenberg,<br />
and plots in the Krems vineyards, Weinzierlberg,<br />
this world traveller and winemaker<br />
produces a unique spectrum of wines that reflect<br />
the geological, climatic and geographic diversity<br />
of two prime wine regions. The enterprise<br />
began in the year 2003 when Wess leased<br />
his first vineyard plots on the Loibenberg slope.<br />
He quickly established a reputation for his own<br />
particular style: highly elegant wines with crystal<br />
clear precision in their expression of origin.<br />
To achieve this, he employs two varieties, Riesling<br />
and Grüner Veltliner, and strives to bring<br />
