The Sabathi family has had a tradition for<br />
viticulture since 1650. The great success<br />
story began in <strong>19</strong>92 when Erwin Sabathi<br />
junior joined the family enterprise. Erwin and<br />
his wife Patricia now manage the family winery<br />
with key positions covered by Erwin’s brothers<br />
Gerd and Christoph. The philosophy of Patrizia<br />
and Erwin Sabathi is based on wine provenance<br />
and natural conditions. Due to the extreme<br />
steepness of their vineyards, all grapes are<br />
picked exclusively by hand. Another argument<br />
for this is wine quality, which is also the reason<br />
why the vineyards have been in conversion to<br />
organic viticulture since 2016. All wines are fermented<br />
spontaneously without the addition of<br />
cultivated yeasts to guarantee unique wines that<br />
reflect their individual terroirs. This is one of Erwin<br />
Sabathi’s decisive steps toward the goal of<br />
making the inimitable and unique character of<br />
each vineyard sensorially recognisable in each<br />
wine. Erwin Sabathi’s most important varieties,<br />
Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay – particularly<br />
from the Grosse STK Ried (grand cru)<br />
Pössnitzberg, are among the truly great white<br />
wines of the world. The meticulous hand selection<br />
of grapes from the oldest vines on Pössnitzberg<br />
yields the internationally acclaimed rarities<br />
“Sauvignon Blanc Ried Pössnitzberg Alte Reben”<br />
and “Chardonnay Ried Pössnitzberg Alte<br />
Reben”. Equally precise wines of a world class<br />
standard are the “Chardonnay Ried Pössnitzberger<br />
Kapelle” and “Sauvignon Blanc Ried<br />
Pössnitzberger Kapelle”. René Gabriel awarded<br />
the Sauvignon Blanc Ried Pössnitzberger<br />
Kapelle from the 2015 vintage with 20/20<br />
points. Falstaff magazine honoured Erwin Sabathi<br />
as Falstaff Vintner of the Year 2016, the<br />
highest accolade for a wine producer in Austria.<br />
