NIEDERÖSTERREICH/LOWER AUSTRIA
94 Sauvignon Blanc TBA 2015
Medium gold-yellow. Subtle rhubarb compote, cassis and a
touch of dried apricot and honey. Juicy acidity elegantly
balances the luscious sweetness in this satiny textured
wine. Dried fig lingers on the sweet finish. Superb ageing
potential.
LUDWIG EHN
Family Ehn have been winemakers since
1859 and the siblings Michaela and
Ludwig are the current managers of the
tradition-rich wine estate. The vines grow in
the best sites of Kamptal in the vicinity of Langenlois.
Great respect for this extraordinary
terroir is the foundation for their authentic
wines. The Ehn Family has always been meticulous
about their handcraft and bespoke care
of their vineyards. Michaela’s great passion is
the immersion in nature and contact with the
vines and wines. She is an energetic woman
with a big heart and deep love for life. Ludwig
appreciates the down-to-earth work in the
vineyards and likes to unite this with an open
and contemporary wine style in the cellar. His
motto is: “try the impossible to achieve what is
possible and avoid mediocrity”. The estate’s
most famous vineyard site is the Zöbinger
Heiligenstein, which is classified as an Österreichische
Traditionsweingüter (ÖTW) Erste
Lage (grand cru) and is known around the
world for its Riesling. The Ehns’ exemplary
Grüner Veltliners grow in the Spiegel and Panzaun.
Another outstanding speciality is the
Gemischter Satz from the Alten Panzaun vineyard,
which is a field blend of numerous different
grape varieties growing side-by-side. Equally
distinctive are the fragrant Gelber
Muskateller (Muscat Blanc à petits grains) and
the single-vineyard Sauvignon Blanc from Ried
Seeberg. Gentle fruit handling from the harvest
to vinification are a key to expressive wines.
The assortment ranges from a light Grüner
Veltliner “Verdino” to classic Riesling “Urgestein”
all the way to the Grüner Veltliner “Titan
Spiegel ÖTW 1er Lage”. The Estate’s wine
shop is located just a few steps away from the
Kornplatz main square of Langenlois. The Ehn
wines can be tasted and purchased there in a
relaxed and tasteful atmosphere.
