The name “Wieninger” actually means
“Man from Vienna” and anyone who
carries such a name in such a grand city is
obliged to give his very best. Indeed, Fritz Wieninger
does this with superlative style and has
long been the indisputable top producer in the
city. This traditional heurigen family business
has developed into an exceptional winery. Fritz
Wieninger has owned vineyards on both sides of
the Danube River for several years now. With
the purchase of plots in Vienna’s best vineyard,
the Nussberg, the talented vintner now has even
better fruit at his disposal and he knows how to
turn this into an incredibly diversified assortment
of premium wines. Wieninger is best
known in Austria for the oak fermented Chardonnay
and Pinot Noir in his “Grand Select” series.
The Bordeaux blend, “Danubis Grand Select”
exhibits extraordinary cassis fruit and
spice. A further specialty of the house is the traditional
Viennese “Gemischter Satz” (field
blend). Various grape varieties that grow side by
side in one vineyard are harvested and vinified
together to yield a unique and authentic wine.
As of the 2013 vintage, this wine is now a certified
wine of demarcated origin, a “Wiener Gemischter
Satz DAC”. This export-oriented enterprise
is to date the only Viennese winery that has
gained acceptance in white tablecloth restaurants
all across Austria and also exports 40 %
of its production to 31 countries on three continents.
The share of wine sold in Viennese restaurants
has also increased in recent years. Fritz
Wieninger has fulfilled a life-long dream: as of
September 2012, his winery has a new vinification
facility located on Stammersdorfer Strasse
31. The Viennese vintner association “Wien-
Wein” was formed together with the Christ, Edlmoser,
Cobenzl, Mayer am Pfarrplatz and Fuhrgassl-Huber
wineries to promote the popularity
of the best wines of Vienna.

Pale green-yellow with silver highlights. Fresh meadow
herbs, subtle white apple, delicate hazelnut, a touch of orange
zest and minerals. Juicy and elegant with a touch of
pineapple flavouring the crisp structure. Salty minerals
linger long on the finish. Great ageing potential.
