ST. PÖLTEN
ing state capital, St. Pölten, offers a versatile,
modern cultural program. Multiple trails and
roads open to the west and the east from this
most southern point of the wine-growing
area: from Statzendorf, Unterwöbling and
Oberwölbling to Nussdorf, Reichersdorf, Getzersdorf
and on to Inzersdorf and Herzogenburg
and its splendid abbey. The uniting element
is the congenial wine culture that vintner
families share in the numerous cosy winery
taverns called “Buschenschanks”. They are
very conscious of the importance of Grüner
Veltliner and Riesling as ambassadors of their
region. The winery taverns play an important
role in raising awareness for the inimitable
style of Traisental wines in a very personal
manner by serving them with tasty, regional
culinary treats. Visitors should not shy away
from exploring other varietal white and red
wine specialties.
MARKUS
HUBER
Markus Huber has succeeded in
achieving an internationally respected
reputation in just a few years. As
vintner and chairman of the Traisental Vintner’s
Association, it is his goal not only to
produce unique wines of character for his
own winery, but also to raise consumer
awareness of the entire Traisental wine region
and its unique calcareous conglomerate
soils. Crystal clear varietal expression and
the pronounced mineral character that can
only be derived from an outstanding terroir
are the attributes that distinguish his wines.
The main variety is clearly Grüner Veltliner,
which represents two thirds of production.
Four different styles of Grüner Veltliner are
produced, each defined by its respective soil
and fruit potential. On this basis, either stainless
steel or wooden casks are chosen for vinification.
The second most important variety
is Riesling, followed by Weissburgunder
