MARKOWITSCH
The Markowitsch winery secured its
place among the Austrian wine elite
with dizzying speed. This achievement
was made possible by striving for quality
without compromise - efforts that were acknowledged
with the “Falstaff Vintner of the
Year 1999”. Approximately 39 hectares of
vineyards are planted with 75 % red wine varieties
and 25 % white. Zweigelt, Pinot Noir,
Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon dominate the
red wines and Grüner Veltliner, Chardonnay
and Sauvignon Blanc the whites. To fulfil the
international demand for top quality wines,
fruit from another 40 vineyard hectares cultivated
according to the strictest quality standards
is purchased from contracted growers.
Family Markowitsch built a 27,000 square
foot winery facility in 2001 that meets their
growing needs and the challenges facing modern
quality vinification. This has made it possible
to vinify unique, inimitable wines that reflect
the Carnuntum terroir. Markowitsch
focuses on autochthon grape varieties like
Zweigelt, but also includes international varieties
like Pinot Noir in his repertoire, which
reflect his global outlook. Gerhard Markowitsch
won the prestigious “Erste Bank Trophy
2007”. The “Rosenberg” 2010 won the overall
second place in the prestigious Falstaff Red
Wine Premier. Gerhard Markowitsch won the
“Erste Bank Reserve Trophy” once again with
his “M1” from the 2012 vintage and in November
2017 he achieved 2nd place from Falstaff
for his Cuvée Rosenberg.
