ARTNER
The Artner Winery is situated in the heart
of the Carnuntum wine-growing area
in the town of Höflein. Forty hectares
of vineyards are cultivated predominantly on
chalk and loess soils. These chiefly south-facing
sites benefit from the climatic influence of
both Lake Neusiedl and the Danube River.
The Artner Winery specializes in the autochthon
varieties Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch.
Particularly when matured in small oak barrels,
these varieties develop a unique style with
an incredibly concentrated, fruity structure.
This producer sets a benchmark for outstanding
quality for a modest, competitive price
each year with its regional blend “Rubin Carnuntum”
Zweigelt Barrique. The Artner family
also has years of experience with the international
varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and
Merlot and achieves complex harmonious varietal
wines with good aging potential. Syrah
is the variety that best shows this vintner’s passion
and consistently achieves international
accolades. “Amarok” is a blend of Zweigelt
and Syrah and has long established itself as the
flagship of the house. The “massive a.” has
evolved into a cult wine with which Artner exhibits
the potential of Syrah in Austria. This
wine is produced only in exceptional vintages.
The assortment of white wines includes several
excellent, regional varietal wines. The producer’s
Grüner Veltliners stand out with pronounced
spicy fruit and harmonious acidity.
Even varieties like Sauvignon Blanc and Gelber
Muskateller (Muscat Blanc à petits grains)
thrive marvellously in the Carnuntum region.
In particular the reserve wines (Grüner Veltliner
Steinacker Reserve, Sauvignon Blanc and
‘massive a. weiss’ from 100 % Chardonnay)
show the great white wine potential of the region.
The family also operates two exclusive
gourmet restaurants in Vienna with a focus on
traditional local dishes as well as the innovative
Josper Grill restaurant. The wines and the
goat cheese specialities from the family’s farm
can be enjoyed on the premises or purchased
for take-away at the wine tavern in the old
farmhouse in Höflein.
