d. Personnel appointed/drafted/posted to a duty station for periods <strong>of</strong> less than 6<br />

PROPERTY ENTITLEMENTS<br />

4. Property specification. SSFA property will broadly equate to the applicant’s<br />

equivalent SFA entitlement in accordance with Annex B to Chapter 3 to TSARs <strong>JSP</strong> <strong>464</strong><br />

Part 1. This is taken to mean that the property is to have a similar specification in terms <strong>of</strong><br />

the number and type <strong>of</strong> rooms and is be no smaller than 10% below the indicative square<br />

meterage <strong>of</strong> the equivalent SFA Type (as per <strong>JSP</strong> 315, Scales 21 (OSFA) and Scale 22<br />

(ORSFA)). Whilst the property specification is derived from the provisions in <strong>JSP</strong> 315,<br />

applicants should understand that <strong>JSP</strong> 315 Scales 21 and 22 are not an entitlement but<br />

provide indicative guidance only. Fully furnished or unfurnished accommodation can be<br />

provided on request.<br />

5. Reduced scale property. Officer applicants for SSFA may be required to occupy<br />

property which is up to 20% below the indicative sizes in <strong>JSP</strong> 315, Scale 21 in high cost<br />

rental areas as determined by the HIC. A high cost rental area is defined as an area in<br />

which the cost <strong>of</strong> renting property is more than one and a half times the national average<br />

cost <strong>of</strong> renting equivalent sized property.<br />

6. Proximity <strong>of</strong> SSFA from place <strong>of</strong> duty. SSFA property will normally be provided<br />

within the following radii from the place <strong>of</strong> duty:<br />

a. Outside London. SSFA is to be provided within 10 miles radius <strong>of</strong> the duty<br />

station. SSFA outside this radius can be <strong>of</strong>fered only with the agreement <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Local Service Commander and DIO Ops Accommodation SO1 Policy /<br />

Customer Liaison. Disputes between the Local Service Commander and DIO<br />

Ops Accommodation are to be referred to the appropriate single Service<br />

Housing Colonel for a decision.<br />

b. MOD London personnel (occupying appointments on the VCDS 45 Minute<br />

Travel List). SSFA is to be provided within 45 minutes travel by public<br />

transport <strong>of</strong> the duty station.<br />

i. Additions to the VCDS 45 Minute Travel List. Additions to the VCDS 45<br />

Minute Travel list require approval at 3* level and should be forwarded to<br />

MA/VCDS who sponsors the List.<br />

c. MOD London personnel (non VCDS 45 Minute List). SSFA is to be provided<br />

within 1 ½ hrs travel by public transport <strong>of</strong> their place <strong>of</strong> duty.<br />

d. Formed Units in London. SSFA is to be provided within 10 miles <strong>of</strong> their<br />

place <strong>of</strong> duty.<br />
