SECTION I<br />
ENTITLED SERVICE PERSONNEL<br />
CHAPTER 3<br />
ENTITLEMENT TO SFA<br />
0301 Entitlement criteria. To be entitled to SFA Service personnel must be:<br />
a. Aged 18 or over, have completed initial training and be serving on a regular<br />
engagement with the UK Armed Forces, or be a Full Commitment (FC) Reservist as<br />
defined in single Service instructions. For those personnel under 18 years <strong>of</strong> age<br />
the parent unit must accept responsibility for their behaviour until the 18 th birthday.<br />
b. In Personal status category (PStatCat) 1 (See footnote 7 ), 1C, 1S or 2 as defined<br />
in <strong>JSP</strong> 752, Chapter 1 Section 4.<br />
c. Have at least 6 months to serve at the station where they qualify for SFA apart<br />
from the following exception:<br />
(1) Those Service personnel who have been selected for compulsory<br />
redundancy and have been given 6 months or less notice. In these<br />
circumstances, Service personnel will be entitled to SFA at the location where<br />
they have been assigned for their last 6 months or less. If there is no SFA<br />
available within a 10 mile radius <strong>of</strong> that location, DIO Ops Accommodation will<br />
<strong>of</strong>fer SFA further afield; the applicant will not be entitled to SSFA but would be<br />
entitled to apply for surplus SFA in accordance with Chapter 10.<br />
0302 Entitlement by appointment. Some Service appointments require personnel to<br />
work either in the home or be accommodated away from subordinates. Accordingly,<br />
Service personnel PStatCat 1 (serving unaccompanied), and PStatCat 2, 3, 4 or 5 are<br />
entitled to SFA which meets the requirements <strong>of</strong> their work, when employed in the<br />
following posts. Where SFA is not available for any reason, SSFA is not authorised<br />
except for Garrison / Station Commanders / Service Chaplains with unit pastoral care<br />
duties. SSSA to the appropriate scale is to be sourced in accordance with <strong>JSP</strong> <strong>464</strong><br />
Part 3 Chap 8.<br />
a. Officers <strong>of</strong> OF3 rank and above serving in appointments designated as being In<br />
Command which is defined as being able to exercise Command Powers <strong>of</strong><br />
Punishment in accordance with the Armed Forces Act 2006. Exceptions are to be<br />
staffed through the appropriate Housing Colonel as casework.<br />
b. RAF OF4 Station Executive appointments.<br />
c. Regimental Sergeant Majors <strong>of</strong> major regular Army units or RAF Station<br />
Warrant Officers.<br />
d. Service Chaplains undertaking a pastoral responsibility at Unit level.<br />
e. Serving members <strong>of</strong> the Army Welfare Service (AWS) employed as Army<br />
Welfare Workers (AWW) and serving members <strong>of</strong> the Naval Personal and Family<br />
Service (NPFS) and Royal Marines Welfare (RMW) 8 .<br />
77 Unless they are serving unaccompanied (in accordance with the criteria laid out in <strong>JSP</strong> 752 Chap 1 Section 1 Annex A) when there is<br />
ONLY an entitlement to SLA at the Place <strong>of</strong> Duty iaw <strong>JSP</strong> <strong>464</strong> Part 3 Para 0301.<br />
8 When more than one <strong>of</strong> any <strong>of</strong> these categories <strong>of</strong> personnel <strong>of</strong> the same gender are serving in the same geographical location, SFA<br />
is to be shared. Co-habitation is not permitted.<br />
