5.3 Services for Citizens Business Area<br />

The Services for Citizens Business Area describes the mission and purpose of the <strong>Australian</strong> <strong>Government</strong> in<br />

terms of the services it provides both to and on behalf of <strong>Australian</strong> individuals, businesses and other<br />

organisations. It includes the provision of externally-focused government services and the obligations of the<br />

<strong>Australian</strong> <strong>Government</strong> to support and protect the nation's population. The majority of the functional definitions<br />

contained within the Services for Citizens Business Area have been adapted from the AGIFT.<br />

The structure of the Services for Citizens Business Area (Figure 5-3) incorporates the Lines of Business and<br />

Business Capabilities.<br />

5.3.1 [101] Business Support A<br />

Business Support includes supporting the private sector, including small business and non-profit organisations;<br />

supporting strategies to assist business growth and management; supporting advocacy programs and advising<br />

on regulations surrounding business activities; and assisting businesses to comply with reporting requirements of<br />

the government.<br />

� support the registration of associations;<br />

� recording the details of incorporated associations;<br />

� assess applications and issuing registration numbers;<br />

� maintain records of registered details;<br />

� process registration updates and renewals.<br />

� support and assist businesses and organisations in their efforts to<br />

maintain accounts and records of their business activities, and to<br />

satisfy business reporting requirements of the government;<br />

� review the performance or financial management, of businesses<br />

and organisations;<br />

� provide verification for statements or claims made in official<br />

reports;<br />

� provide recommendations for improvement in business<br />

processes and operations.<br />

� support the registration of businesses;<br />

� record the details of companies and corporations;<br />

� assess applications and issue registration numbers;<br />

� maintain records of registered details;<br />

� process registration updates and renewals;<br />

� issue licenses and permits, such as those required for<br />

fundraising, the sale of alcohol or signage and displays.<br />

� support corporate funding of organisations and events;<br />

� advise on regulations and restrictions on products and services at<br />

events;<br />

� provide information about sponsorship applications and how to<br />

meet obligations in relation to marketing and merchandising.<br />
