Efficiency as an attribute of an<br />

ad hoc task is an empirical<br />

measure of how much time and<br />

resource was consumed in<br />

completing the task. Because of<br />

the unstructured nature of ad hoc<br />

tasks, using efficiency information<br />

for process improvement or<br />

input–output relationship analysis<br />

is not possible or practical.<br />

The safety of a task is a<br />

measurement of the risk<br />

exposure of the task to possible<br />

negative outcomes that could be<br />

realised through the completion of<br />

the task.<br />

Measurement of the complexity of<br />

a task is a possible necessity in<br />

the investigation of failed<br />

outcomes, or the assessment of<br />

risk that may be associated with a<br />

business function.<br />

A. Resource consumption<br />

Quantitative measures of the volume of<br />

resources consumed in the execution of an ad<br />

hoc task. Resources include financial resources<br />

(money), material resources (fuel, electricity<br />

etc.) and labour (hours of effort).<br />

B. Time consumption<br />

Quantitative measures of the time taken to<br />

complete an ad hoc task.<br />

A. Coverage<br />

Quantitative measurement of the number of<br />

sub-tasks that a task is dependent upon for<br />

completion. Sub-tasks are smaller elements of<br />

work than the original task, and are completed<br />

by different employees.<br />

B. Usability<br />

Qualitative measures of the degree of difficulty<br />

experienced by employees learning how to do a<br />

task and being able to complete it competently<br />

and autonomously.<br />
