the management and use of water;<br />

� apply legislation relating to waterways and water resources,<br />

including rivers, groundwater, wetlands and urban water;<br />

� advise on regulations regarding the exploitation of water resources<br />

to ensure sustainable quality and availability for household,<br />

industrial and agricultural use.<br />

Primary Industries involves supporting rural and marine industries; advising on related regulations. Implementing<br />

strategies for efficient and sustainable operations; monitoring current practices to meet national and international<br />

standards. This includes liaison with industry bodies and across jurisdictions in relation to the needs of primary<br />

industries.<br />

Rural Field Day Promotion A<br />

� support the control of chemicals and pesticides;<br />

� advise on and monitor the use of substances to control weeds,<br />

insects and other pests that affect primary production;<br />

� maintain a register of approved agricultural or veterinary chemicals<br />

and pesticides;<br />

� assess product applications;<br />

� specify conditions of use and maximum residue limits;<br />

� conduct routine inspections to ensure compliance.<br />

� support and assist the growth and management of sea-based or<br />

farming industries;<br />

� identify markets and facilitate trade or investment opportunities;<br />

� support and provide financial assistance for marine and rural<br />

initiatives;<br />

� provide advice on marine and rural regulation (including quality<br />

assurance programs and operating standards);<br />

� support and encourage efficient and sustainable cultivation<br />

practices.<br />

� protect the health of Australia's plant and animal populations from<br />

risks associated with exotic pests and disease;<br />

� conduct inspections at borders, ports, airports and other entry or<br />

exit points;<br />

� manage isolation and disinfection facilities;<br />

� advise on quarantine regulations and investigating breaches.<br />

� support shows, exhibitions and conferences to encourage<br />

agricultural innovation (including financial assistance and advice on<br />

planning and marketing strategies).
