Natural Resources involves supporting the sustainable use and management of energy, mineral, land and water<br />

supplies; evaluating resource consumption and exploitation practices; and advising on related regulations and<br />

supporting industries that realise the economic potential of resources.<br />

� provide advice on energy market reform, research and<br />

development, and environmental assessments.<br />

� support the effective management and allocation of land resources;<br />

� promote strategies for integrated land use and balancing<br />

competing interests;<br />

� provide advice on rural and urban developments;<br />

� conduct surveys and demographic analysis;<br />

� forecast needs for infrastructure and facilities;<br />

� identify heritage and significant areas.<br />

� support the assessment of land resources to estimate their material<br />

worth for rating and taxation purposes;<br />

� provide advice on the unimproved value of land or in acquisition<br />

compensation disputes (including valuations for heritage-listed land<br />

and rating concessions where land is held under nominated lease<br />

or tenure from the Crown).<br />

� support the management of mineral resources and the economic<br />

development of related industries;<br />

� apply legislation relating to mining and mineral processing;<br />

� negotiate partnership programs with the traditional owners of<br />

mineral-rich lands.<br />

� support the control of pollutant emissions;<br />

� advise on and monitor compliance with standards for the discharge<br />

of industrial contaminants and waste;<br />

� advise on regulations regarding industry practices through waste<br />

minimisation strategies and pollutant inventories (including<br />

assessment, inspections and providing emissions information to<br />

the community).<br />
