procedures across jurisdictions;<br />

� advise on health regulations, standards and guidelines (including<br />

drugs and poisons control and food hygiene);<br />

� control the registration and conduct of health care providers.<br />

� support the provision of hospital services and health care through<br />

institutions offering a wide range of treatments and services<br />

(including liaison across jurisdictions to coordinate services and<br />

operations).<br />

� support the scientific investigation of human health and disease;<br />

� advise on medical research regulations and standards for ethical<br />

conduct;<br />

� support the availability of medical equipment or research services;<br />

� advise on criteria for the allocation of funding to medical research.<br />

� support the protection of the physical and mental wellbeing of all<br />

people at a broad level;<br />

� support the understanding and control of the determinants of<br />

disease;<br />

� reduce public exposure to risks encountered as part of lifestyle or<br />

the environment.<br />

� assist target groups with special health care needs (including<br />

advisory and support services for individuals with a particular<br />

returned defence service personnel and their families;<br />

� provide eligibility criteria for access to health services.
