World Heritage Listings A<br />

� support the management and conservation of elements of the<br />

biological environment that have particular historic, scientific or<br />

social significance;<br />

� advise on standards for maintaining and preserving natural<br />

heritage areas, such as access and development restrictions or<br />

regeneration requirements.<br />

� support the management and protection of marine environments;<br />

� support the sustainable development of ocean resources;<br />

� conduct negotiations across jurisdictions to ascertain authority over<br />

particular ocean regions.<br />

� support initiatives to reduce contamination of the air, water and<br />

land by emissions and waste;<br />

� advise on standards around pollutant prevention;<br />

� support initiatives to counteract the effects of pollutants if accidents<br />

occur;<br />

� raise awareness and support community activities to change<br />

common practice;<br />

� promote environmentally friendly alternatives.<br />

� support the maintenance of items or areas registered by UNESCO<br />

in accordance with the World Heritage Convention for protection<br />

and conservation;<br />

� assess natural, Indigenous and historic sites in Australia for<br />

possible inclusion on international heritage lists (including liaison<br />

with international bodies and community groups to manage the<br />

listing process).<br />

5.3.11 [1011] Health Care A<br />

Health Care includes supporting the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease or injury; supporting the<br />

provision of health care services and medical research; supporting regulatory schemes for health care products<br />

and pharmaceuticals; and controlling the registration and conduct of health practitioners.<br />

� support the protection of the physical and mental wellbeing of<br />

community members in a particular district;<br />

� support the provision of direct assistance to individuals or groups<br />

� monitor community health services to ensure adequate levels of<br />

care.<br />

� support the protection of the physical and mental wellbeing of<br />

Defence personnel and their families (including health services for<br />

defence service personnel serving overseas).<br />

� support the provision of financial guarantees against risk of disease<br />

� support the operation of universal health insurance schemes;<br />
