Science involves supporting and promoting research and systematic studies; and supporting scientific bodies<br />

and monitoring industry research and development programs. This includes research into living things and their<br />

environments, natural laws and the application of knowledge to practical problems.<br />

� conduct research into forestry, food, fibre and other crops or plants<br />

grown for commercial purposes;<br />

� provide input into quality control for the processing of agricultural<br />

products (including scientific advice on soil, weed and pest<br />

management, and information on new plant species).<br />

� conduct research into the health care and management of wild and<br />

domestic animals;<br />

� provide scientific advice on nutrition, breeding, diagnosis and<br />

treatment of diseases (includes livestock, pets and other domestic<br />

animals, fish, birds and native animals – in the wild or in captivity).<br />

� conduct research into the active use of scientific knowledge and<br />

principles from a range of fields and disciplines;<br />

� provide advice and practical solutions to problems in various<br />

sectors, such as industry, security, communications and health<br />

care.<br />

� conduct research into the lives of plants, animals and microorganisms;<br />

� investigate their origin, distribution, behaviour and physical makeup<br />

(including studies of evolution, ecosystem dynamics,<br />

identification and manipulation of biological processes).<br />

� conduct research into geological, water and atmospheric<br />

processes;<br />

� provide scientific advice on the sustainable management of land<br />

and water resources, exploitation of mineral resources, hazard and<br />

disaster assessment.<br />

� conduct research into quantities, magnitudes and forms by the use<br />

of numbers;<br />

� provide data analysis, simulation or mathematical modelling to<br />

illustrate trends and predict outcomes;<br />

� perform optimisation tests to determine the best operating<br />

conditions for a process (including training and consultancy in<br />

mathematical analysis).<br />
