Habitat Requirements<br />

Mainly open country, nests on ledges high<br />

on cliffs<br />

Often hunts in riparian zones<br />

Lakes and rivers, nests in tall trees and on<br />

cliffs<br />

Diet consists primarily of fish<br />

Old growth forest with a multi-layer<br />

Canopy<br />

Usually nests in old cavities<br />

Preys on small mammals, especially<br />

woodrats<br />

All habitats with a sufficient prey base and<br />

protection from human harassment .<br />

Three wolf dens have recently been<br />

confirmed in the Northern Cascades<br />

Possible. The area contains good hunting habitat<br />

and there are recorded sighting in the Railroad<br />

Possible. Bald eagles have been observed on<br />

Lake Chelan and the lower part of Railroad<br />

Creek and Domke Lake are designated as bald<br />

eagle recovery territory.<br />

Possible. A female sponed owl was radio<br />

tracked to the upper Railroad Creek drainage in<br />

1993 and a male currently resides near Domke<br />

Lake.<br />

Possible. A number of unconfirmed wolf<br />

sighting have recently been reported in the<br />

Railroad Creek drainage.<br />

Possible. A grizzly bear siting at Domke Lake in<br />

1995. was reported to and recorded by the USFA<br />

Possible. Suitable lynx habitat is found at higher<br />

elevations around Holden Mine. and there is a<br />

lynx record from Dumbell Mountain.<br />

Possible. Railroad Creek provides suitable<br />

habitat.<br />

No. There are no known populations in the<br />

Railroad Creek drainage.
