Spain surpassed for the
first time the threshold of
2,62 million tons of fruits
and vegetables products
imported in 2008 of which
1.30 million tons are fruit
sendings and 1.32 million
tons of vegetables.
Nevertheless, in the last
five years only the campaign
2009 with 2.4 million broke
with the increasing tendency,
due mainly to the
important decrease of the
seed fruit and the citruses,
Spain is taking advantage of its
fruits and vegetables imports
The products of import and the South Hemisphere have appeared in the
Spanish commerce business. The bad climate conditions, the price and the
aggressive commercial strategies of the Spanish exporter in the international
markets anticipate new increases in 2011.
since this year was an excess
of the Spanish harvest.
But there were several
factors at the same time
causing an important increase
of the imports, although
the new effect has
been forgotten. Nevertheless,
the cheap price and the status
of “commodity” of some
products have kept a constant
flow of volume coming
from international markets.
Vegetables
The evolution of the vegetables
imports to Spain
since the year 2006 can be
compared in volumes with the
fruits. In fact, it proved that
Spain has changed from supplier
to customer. These are
the cases of France, Portugal
and Holland, among others.
The importance of these
producers is different. France
like the first international supplier
of vegetables with more
than 780,000 tons and with
potato and bean like the strongest
products in the last four
years exporting to Spain an
average of 525,000 tons and
32,000 tons. respectively.
