Melones Ramón Díaz,
the way of the brand
The company of La
Mancha, Ramón Díaz
Cano-Prieto, is linking
gradually to the new generation
of the professionals
of the melon with a
bet on the premium
brand- El Oreja and recently
el Tio de la Vara,
in addition to having a
presence in the market
during the 12 months.
On the other hand, it
keeps on being faithful
to its strategy of supply
with producers of the
Spanish Southeast, Seville,
Extremadura and La
Mancha but doing the
first concepts of brands
and being present in the
market during the 12
months thanks to the
productions of Senegal,
or Brazil, among other
suppliers.
The figures of the imports
of melon are
around 2,000 tons
approximately. For the
rest of the months the
supply of Melones Ramón
Díaz is for the national
market. In Andalusia
there are two typical
zones of melons: Almería
and Seville, and La Mancha,
reaching a volume
between 18,000 - 20,000
tons depending on the
campaign.
The melon keeps on
being the most important
product that Melo-
nes Ramón Díaz commercializes.
The share of
the melon reaches 80 per
cent, whereas the watermelon
is 20 per cent.
In the sphere of the
destinations, the national
market is 65 per cent of
the sendings of melon
and watermelon and the
35 per cent is for the export,
being Portugal the
main destination.
The sendings of Melones
Ramón Díaz are
mainly for one kind of
customer: the wholesalers,
although they are
also working with the
modern retailers.
