The demand of organic<br />
fruits and vegetables in the<br />
European market showed<br />
2010 signs of recovery in markets<br />
set as the German or the<br />
French markets as in markets<br />
in evolution like the Italian<br />
one. Only the English market<br />
had negative results.<br />
The first semester of 2010<br />
showed a rise of the demand<br />
even linked to a rise of the<br />
prices. They are the cases of<br />
France and Italy.<br />
The price of the organic vegetables<br />
was 23 per cent more<br />
in the stands of the French stores<br />
until June of 2010 respecting<br />
to the conventional vegetables,<br />
standing out the<br />
important increases of aubergines,<br />
carrots, courgette, bean<br />
and cucumber. The average<br />

France and Italy are the destinations where the demand of organic fruits and<br />
vegetables show signs of recovery with high prices in the stands. Market share<br />
of Germany is stable but the United Kingdom decreases for two years.<br />

of the organic fruit was quite<br />
similar, reaching prices of 5.54<br />
euros per kilogram.<br />
The business of the organic<br />
fruits and vegetables in France<br />
during 2009 was 523 million<br />
euros, which means 17 per<br />
cent of the agro-alimentary demand<br />
of organic products in<br />
the French market.<br />
Italy<br />
Italy is becoming a market<br />
with potential. The Italians closed<br />
the first six months with<br />
an increase of the demand of<br />
more than seven per cent although<br />
since January to July<br />
the prices of the organic fruits<br />
and vegetables increased 27<br />
per cent, according to Ismea.<br />
The British market is living<br />
a difficult situation and also<br />
in the demand of organic fruits<br />
and vegetables. Until the first<br />
six months of 2010 the decrease<br />
of the sales was 12 per cent<br />
and the market was 220 million<br />
pounds with important<br />
decreases of bananas and tro-<br />
pical fruits.<br />
Only the demand of organic<br />
pears and citruses increased<br />
one per cent. The sales of organic<br />
vegetables decreased almost<br />
12 per cent and the cabbages<br />
17 per cent.<br />
