To produce grapes and
melon in Brazil has stopped
being cheap and the costs
begin to rise. The production
costs of one hectare of
grape already reach 60,000
dollars and not only by the
natural increase of the costs
of logistic and labour, because
or the value of the Brazilian
Real that has re-valued
60 per cent in the last two
years.
The Brazilian economy
The production costs
begin to damage Brazil
The production cost of fruits in Brazil has increased and it damages its
international competitiveness. The production of one hectare of melon
has increased 64 per cent during the period 2005-2009 and in grape
crop it rises to 60,000 dollars per hectare.
is growing so fast, which is
causing more demand of the
labour to satisfy the needs
with the industry and the
sector services, even in the
regions with less development.
The last report of the
Chamber of Commerce of
the Region Rio Grande do
Norte speaks about the
“many new possibilities for
the real estate development
in the region due to the introducing
of “touroperators”
tourist interested
in developing urbanizations
and places of leisure for the
American market”.
To produce today one
hectare of melon in Brazil
is more than 14,000 reales
–more than 6,000 euros -,
which has meant an increase
of 64 per cent in the period
2005-2009. This inflationary
tendency of the
melon costs is causing that
the European operators
need to sell the kilo of melon
over 80 cents of euro.
