Se muestraron cerca <strong>de</strong> 260muestras paleomagneticas estándar <strong>de</strong> la localidad <strong>de</strong> Tacámbaro. Todos lossitios estan fechados por el método radiométrico <strong>de</strong> Ar-Ar y las eda<strong>de</strong>s van<strong>de</strong>s<strong>de</strong> 4 Ma hasta la actualidad. La paleodirección característica fue aislada para25 flujos <strong>de</strong> lava, <strong>de</strong> los cuales 20 mostraron polaridad normal, 5 invertida yuno se <strong>de</strong>secho por mostrar inconsistencia. La principal paleodirección obtenidaes I=32.7°, D= 352.3°, #95=4.8º, lo cual correspon<strong>de</strong> a una posición <strong>de</strong>l polo<strong>de</strong> Plat= 83.7º, Plong= 0.59º, y #95=3.8º. Estas direcciones son prácticamenteindistinguibles <strong>de</strong> la esperada paleodirección <strong>de</strong>l Plio-Cuaternario, comola obtenida <strong>de</strong>l polo <strong>de</strong> referencia para el cratón norte americano. Lavariación paleosecular se estimo a través <strong>de</strong> estudiar la dispersión <strong>de</strong>l pologeomagnético virtual dando SB=13.7, SU=17 SL=11.5 (límite superior e inferiorrespectivamente), lo cual correspon<strong>de</strong> con el mo<strong>de</strong>lo G <strong>de</strong> McFad<strong>de</strong>n et al.(1988, 1991) y la nueva compilación <strong>de</strong> Johnson et al. El CampoVolcánico El Pinacate (CVP) se localiza en la región NNO <strong>de</strong>l estado <strong>de</strong> Sonora,y consiste en <strong>de</strong>rrames <strong>de</strong> lava antiguos cubiertos y ro<strong>de</strong>ados por <strong>de</strong>rrames<strong>de</strong> flujos más jóvenes y diversas estructuras volcánicas, resultado <strong>de</strong> doseventos Volcánicos diferentes, el más antiguo, el evento Pre-Pinacate(Mioceno)y otro más joven, el evento Pinacate (Cuaternario). Los Conos Cineríticos sonlas estructuras volcánicas más comunes en el área, existiendo alre<strong>de</strong>dor <strong>de</strong>400 distribuidos en toda el área, existen 8 maars (El elegante), estructurasvolcánicas producto <strong>de</strong> actividad freatomagmática que en conjunto con losdiversos <strong>de</strong>rrames <strong>de</strong> lava abarcan una superficie aproximada <strong>de</strong> 1,500 km².GEOPAL-3PALEOMAGNETISMO DEL VULCANISMO CENOZOICOAL RECIENTE EN EL ORIENTE DE LA PROVINCIAALCALINA DEL ESTE, MÉXICO, REVISITADOGonzález Rangel José Antonio 1 , Alva ValdiviaLuis Manuel 1 , Camps Pierre 2 y Perrin Mireille 21 Instituto <strong>de</strong> Geofísica, UNAMal estado magnético más común <strong>de</strong> pseudo-dominio-sencillo. Estos sitios fueronrecientemente fechados por el método geocronológico <strong>de</strong> 40Ar-39Ar y abarcan<strong>de</strong> 0.02 a 5.92 Ma. Se muestreo sólo en sitios <strong>de</strong> fácil acceso y en afloramientos<strong>de</strong> roca relativamente fresca, aparentemente sin alteraciones visibles. Sereportan los resultados preliminares <strong>de</strong> experimentos <strong>de</strong> magnetismo <strong>de</strong> rocasincluyendo las curvas <strong>de</strong> susceptibilidad Vs. Temperatura <strong>de</strong> -190°C hasta680°C y ciclos <strong>de</strong> histéresis <strong>de</strong> hasta 1.2 Tesla. Tenerife, Islas Canarias, España4 Universidad <strong>de</strong>l País Vasco, Españaanavari@gmail.comSe presentan los resultados preliminares <strong>de</strong> los estudios <strong>de</strong> magnetismo <strong>de</strong>rocas y paleomagnetismo, realizados en un secuencia <strong>de</strong> lavas <strong>de</strong> edadneogena, en la cual existen antece<strong>de</strong>ntes, por estudios previos (Glen et al.,2003), <strong>de</strong> la existencia <strong>de</strong> una transición <strong>de</strong> polaridad. Se encuentra ubicada enla Isla <strong>de</strong> Gomera, Islas Canarias, España. La secuencia consta <strong>de</strong> 33 coladas,y se tomaron alre<strong>de</strong>dor <strong>de</strong> 9 muestras por sitio. En los estudios <strong>de</strong> magnetismo<strong>de</strong> rocas, se pue<strong>de</strong>n clasificar las coladas en 3 tipos: tipo A. Temperatura <strong>de</strong>Curie <strong>de</strong> aproximadamente 550°C, con una sola fase y un comportamientoprácticamente reversibles, el mineral portador <strong>de</strong> la remanencia posiblementees magnetita. Tipo B. Una sola fase, una temperatura <strong>de</strong> Curie <strong>de</strong> calentamiento<strong>de</strong> aproximadamente 100°C y una Tc <strong>de</strong> enfriamiento <strong>de</strong> 550°C. C. Dos fases <strong>de</strong>calentamiento, la primera con una Temperatura <strong>de</strong> Curie <strong>de</strong> alre<strong>de</strong>dor <strong>de</strong> 180°Cy una segunda <strong>de</strong> 580°C, una única fase <strong>de</strong> enfriamiento con Tc <strong>de</strong> 500°C. Noson reversibles.Únicamente se han medido las muestras piloto tanto térmicas como por camposalternos, en ambas se pue<strong>de</strong> observar que las direcciones presentan cambios<strong>de</strong> polaridad.2 University of Montpellier 2, Franceantoniog@geofisica.unam.mxReportamos resultados <strong>de</strong> un estudio paleomagnético integral <strong>de</strong> 35 flujos (>300núcleos) <strong>de</strong> lava in<strong>de</strong>pendientes que pertenecen a la Provincia Alcalina <strong>de</strong>l Esteen México. La mayoría <strong>de</strong> los flujos colectados ya habían sido previamentefechados por métodos radiométricos y cubren <strong>de</strong> 20 Ma al Reciente. Seefectuaron experimentos <strong>de</strong> magnetismo <strong>de</strong> rocas: susceptibilidad magnéticacontra baja y alta temperatura, histéresis magnética y análisis <strong>de</strong> FORC, y estosindican que se trata <strong>de</strong> una mineralogía magnética simple, don<strong>de</strong> en muchoscasos la remanencia la portan titanomagnetitas con poco titanio que pertenecen62

NUEVOS RESULTADOSOPALEOMAGNÉTICOS DE LA FORM<strong>AC</strong>IÓN ALTO PARAGUAYCervantes Solano Miguel Angel 1 , Gogichaisvili Avto 1 , Sánchez BettucciLeda 2 , Mena Mabel 3 , Trinda<strong>de</strong> Ricardo 4 y Aguilar Reyes Bertha 11 Laboratorio Interinstitucional <strong>de</strong> Magnetismo Natural, UNAM2 Universidad <strong>de</strong> la República, Uruguay3 Universidad <strong>de</strong> Buenos Aires, Argentina4 Universida<strong>de</strong> <strong>de</strong> São Paulo, Brasilmiguel_cervantes@comunidad.unam.mxEn el presente trabajo se reportan los resultados <strong>de</strong> un estudio paleomagnético,<strong>de</strong> magnetismo <strong>de</strong> rocas y <strong>de</strong> paleointensidad realizado a 28 flujos <strong>de</strong> lava(221 núcleos paleomagnéticos estándar) provenientes <strong>de</strong> la Formación AltoParaguay ubicada en la región Paraguaya <strong>de</strong> los Basaltos <strong>de</strong> Paraná, esto conla finalidad <strong>de</strong> contribuir al estudio <strong>de</strong> la variabilidad <strong>de</strong>l campo magnético <strong>de</strong> laTierra durante el Cretácico Temprano. También se busca hacer una estimación<strong>de</strong>l ritmo <strong>de</strong> extrusión magmática <strong>de</strong> Paraná y así obtener posiciones precisas<strong>de</strong>l polo paleomagnético estable <strong>de</strong>l Cretácico para América <strong>de</strong>l Sur.En 26 <strong>de</strong> los sitios <strong>de</strong> <strong>de</strong>terminó con precisión la dirección promedio <strong>de</strong>lpaleocampo, mostrando una baja dispersión <strong>de</strong>ntro <strong>de</strong> cada sitio y una altaestabilidad direccional. En dos <strong>de</strong> los sitios no fue posible <strong>de</strong>terminar laspaleodirecciones <strong>de</strong>bido a un comportamiento errático y muy complejo durantelos tratamientos paleomagnéticos. Nueve sitios presentan magnetizaciones<strong>de</strong> polaridad normal mientras que otros ocho muestran paleodireccionesintermedias claramente <strong>de</strong>finidas. La paleodirección promedio <strong>de</strong> los sitios<strong>de</strong> polaridad normal es I=-41.8°, D=4.9°, k=112, a95=4.9º y para los sitiosinversamente magnetizados es I=37.1°, D=181.4°, k=23, a95=11.1°.Estos resultados indican direcciones promedio cuasi antipodales, segúnla prueba <strong>de</strong>finida por McFad<strong>de</strong>n y McElnny (1990) la cual es positivay correspon<strong>de</strong> al tipo B. La posición promedio <strong>de</strong>l polo paleomagnéticoobtenido <strong>de</strong> los 18 sitos es Plong= 179.2ºE, Plat= 86.2ºS, R=17.74, k=64.56,A95=4.3º. Las posiciones <strong>de</strong> los Polos Geomagnéticos Virtuales se ajustansuficientemente bien a una distribución <strong>de</strong> Fisher tanto en las curvas <strong>de</strong>probabilidad como en las pruebas estadísticas formales. En eneral, el poloobtenido en este estudio concuerda razonablemente bien con otros, enparticular con los polos reportados en CPMP (Parte Central <strong>de</strong> Paraná), LosAdobes, Misiones y SAMC. Sin embargo hay un alejamiento significativo <strong>de</strong>otros polos <strong>de</strong> eda<strong>de</strong>s similares, esto pue<strong>de</strong> atribuirse a rotaciones tectónicaslocales o a un muestreo insuficiente para <strong>de</strong>scartar la variación paleosecular.Los parámetros <strong>de</strong> Variación Secular concuerdan con datos reportados para elSúper Crón Normal Cretácico. Por el contrario, las dispersiones angulares aquíencontradas son menores respecto aquellas halladas con datos <strong>de</strong>l Jurásico yel Plio-Pleistoceno. Los VGP’s intermedios muestran algún agrupamiento haciael hemisferio Sur, 6 <strong>de</strong> los VGP’s se encuentran ubicados cerca <strong>de</strong> las costas<strong>de</strong>l América <strong>de</strong>l Sur mientras que otros VGP’s están localizados en el OcéanoÍndico y Australia coincidiendo con las bandas longitudinales preferentes sujetasaún a <strong>de</strong>bate.GEOPAL-7PALEOMAGNETISMO EN LA DETERMIN<strong>AC</strong>IÓN DETEMPERATURA DE EMPLAZAMIENTO DE LA IGNIMBRITAPANALILLO, JU<strong>AC</strong>HÍN, SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, MÉXICOAlva Valdivia Luis Manuel 1 , González Rangel José Antonio 1 , CaballeroMiranda Cecilia Irene 1 , Torres Hernán<strong>de</strong>z Ramón 2 y Villalobos Romero Noemi 31 Instituto <strong>de</strong> Geofísica, UNAM2 Instituto <strong>de</strong> Geología, UASLP3 Escuela Superior <strong>de</strong> Ingeniería y Arquitectura, IPNlalva@geofisica.unam.mxSe presentan resultados <strong>de</strong> un estudio paleomagnético <strong>de</strong> magnetizacióntermoremanente <strong>de</strong> los clastos líticos y matriz <strong>de</strong> la ignimbrita Panalillo Inferioren el Campo Volcánico <strong>de</strong> San Luis Potosí (CVSLP), que provee estimacionescuantitativas <strong>de</strong>l rango <strong>de</strong> temperaturas <strong>de</strong> emplazamiento en estas facies. Seanalizaron las facies proximales ricas en líticos en el Arroyo El Juachín, en lascuales se muestrearon 73 núcleos en líticos (<strong>de</strong>s<strong>de</strong> 40 cm a poco menos <strong>de</strong> 10cm <strong>de</strong> tamaño) y en la matriz que los engloba. Los resultados <strong>de</strong> la saturación <strong>de</strong>la magnetización remanente isotermal, las curvas <strong>de</strong> susceptibilidad magnéticavs. temperatura alta (k-T) y los ciclos <strong>de</strong> histéresis sugieren que los mineralesresponsables <strong>de</strong> la magnetización son: titanomagnetita, titanohematita yhematita. Sin embargo, las curvas <strong>de</strong> k-T muestran que en pocos casosexisten dos diferentes fases termomagnéticas durante el calentamiento, y quelas curvas <strong>de</strong> enfriamiento muestran irreversibilidad indicando la presencia <strong>de</strong>titanomagnetita y titanomaghemita. Los resultados muestran dos temperaturas<strong>de</strong> emplazamiento para esta ignimbrita: una <strong>de</strong> baja temperatura (280 ºC - 360ºC, las muestras que presentan esta temperatura <strong>de</strong> emplazamiento tienen doso más componentes) y otra <strong>de</strong> alta temperatura (560 ºC – 680 ºC, las muestrasque presentan esta temperatura <strong>de</strong> emplazamiento tienen en general solo <strong>de</strong>una componente). Este último rango es posiblemente <strong>de</strong>bido al tamaño <strong>de</strong> grano<strong>de</strong> los clastos muestreados y a que no fueron calentados completamente en todosu volumen durante el emplazamiento. Se concluye que esta ignimbrita presentaal menos una componente que correspon<strong>de</strong> a la temperatura <strong>de</strong> emplazamiento<strong>de</strong> 260-360 ºC y que es por tanto originada por material piroclástico.GEOPAL-8DISEÑO Y CONSTRUCCIÓN DE UNA BALANZA DE CURIEEscalante González Jorge Antonio y Böhnel Norbert HaraldCentro <strong>de</strong> Geociencias, UNAMjescalante@geociencias.unam.mxLa balanza <strong>de</strong> Curie es un sistema para obtener curvas <strong>de</strong> susceptibilidadmagnética contra la temperatura midiendo la fuerza ejercida en una muestrageológica sometida a dos parámetros: 1) Un campo magnético inhomogéneogenerado por un electroimán con polos <strong>de</strong> diseño especial y 2) Calor a diferentestemperturas controladas.Se ocupa una balanza horizontal para evitar la <strong>de</strong>scompensación que se dá enbalanzas verticales por cambios en la masa <strong>de</strong> la muestra, así como las fuerzastransversales generadas por el electroimán.El equipo consiste en un horno con capacidad <strong>de</strong> calentar la muestraa temperaturas <strong>de</strong> hasta 700ºC con su controlador electrónico y sensor(termopar), un sistema <strong>de</strong> medición <strong>de</strong> posición <strong>de</strong>l brazo <strong>de</strong> la balanza, unabobina compensadora <strong>de</strong> la fuerza entre el electroimán y la muestra, y el sistema<strong>de</strong> control <strong>de</strong> malla cerrada que regula la corriente necesaria para igualarfuerzas y mantener en equilibrio al sistema.La medición <strong>de</strong> la susceptibilidad magnética se obtiene en forma indirecta<strong>de</strong>tectando la corriente aplicada a la bobina compensadora, la cual serádirectamente porporcional.Se presentarán las diferentes opciones <strong>de</strong> diseño para cada etapa <strong>de</strong>l sistema,así como dificulta<strong>de</strong>s, soluciones y resultados <strong>de</strong> las primeras mediciones consustancias cuya temperatura <strong>de</strong> Curie és conocida.GEOPAL-9EXPERIMENTOS DE PALEOINTENSIDADBöhnel Norbert Harald 1 y Herrero Bervera Emilio 21 Centro <strong>de</strong> Geociencias, UNAM2 Hawaii Institute for Geophysicshboehnel@geociencias.unam.mxSe realizaron experimentos <strong>de</strong> paleointensidad en rocas volcanicas terciarias<strong>de</strong> Querétaro, y <strong>de</strong> sedimentos quemados por estas rocas. Se utilizaron losmétodos <strong>de</strong> Thellier-Coe y <strong>de</strong> multi-especimenes, este último con un protocolomodificado, lo que permite comparaciones a nivel <strong>de</strong> nucleos individuales.Ambos métodos arrojaron paleointensida<strong>de</strong>s parecidas, resultando y una mediaindistinguible. A nivel <strong>de</strong> muestras también se observaron paleointensida<strong>de</strong>smuy parecidas, lo que sugiere que las variaciones se <strong>de</strong>ben a las propieda<strong>de</strong>s<strong>de</strong> las rocas y no tanto a los métodos utilizados.GEOPAL-10ARQUEOINTENSIDADES SOBRE VESTIGIOS DECERÁMICA DEL SITIO ARQUEOLÓGICO DE CAP<strong>AC</strong>HAPineda Durán Mo<strong>de</strong>sto, Morales Contreras Juan, Aguilar Reyes Bertha y Gogichaisvili AvtoInstituto <strong>de</strong> Geofísica, UNAMmpinedad@hotmail.comSe conoce con el nombre <strong>de</strong> cultura Capacha a un complejo arqueológico <strong>de</strong>Colima, en el occi<strong>de</strong>nte <strong>de</strong> Mesoamérica. La cultura Capacha fue la primeracon características complejas que se <strong>de</strong>sarrolló en la región, aproximadamenteentre los años 2000 a.C. y 1200 a.C.En este trabajo reportamos los resultados <strong>de</strong> un estudio <strong>de</strong> magnetismo <strong>de</strong>rocas y arqueointensidad sobre siete fragmentos <strong>de</strong> cerámica <strong>de</strong> éste sitio,contemporáneo <strong>de</strong> otros importantes <strong>de</strong>sarrollos culturales en Mesoaméricacomo El Opeño, en Michoacán, y la primera fase <strong>de</strong> Tlatilco, en el valle <strong>de</strong>México. Seis <strong>de</strong> los siete fragmentos analizados dieron <strong>de</strong>terminaciones <strong>de</strong>intensidad confiables.
