Dell SonicWALL is headquartered in San Jose, CA, now currently owned by Dell. It sells a
range of network security appliances. These include Next-Generation Firewalls and UTMs
(Unified Threat Management), SSL VPNs (Virtual Private Network), backup and recovery,
Email Security, Aanti-spam for email and Management. The company also markets security
subscription services related to their products. The company solutions can also help solving issues
around HIPAA and PCI compliance issues.
On March 13, 2012, USA Today said that Dell announced its intent to acquire SonicWall, a company
with 130 patents and 950 employees. The transaction was completed on May 9,2012. Al
Bayan Magazine met the Head of Product Marketing - EMEA Florian Malecki and conducted this
interview with him.
* How do you evaluate the rate of information
communication technology in the
Middle East
- From a security point of view, companies
of all sizes are looking at upgrading their
existing IT security infrastructure, due to
the consumerization of IT: employees not
only want to access social media, web 2.0
apps, etc. but they also want to use their
own devices like laptops, smartphones,
tablets etc...making the Bring Your Own
Device (BYOD) trend one of today’s hot
topic
Laptops or smart phones can be lost or
stolen, and if there is corporate data downloaded
onto that device that isn’t protected,
then there is a high risk of confidential
information that could be exposed to the
public. Also, if you provide wireless access
to your network and you don’t have the
right policy in place, a non corporate user
could potentially access the network and
causing potential damages.
* What are your main achievements for
this year
- Our main achievement in the region was
the ability to execute against our plans and
exceed them.
* What about the competition
- There aren’t any no new competitors for
us ; Dell SonicWALL’s SuperMassive
E10800 is the highest overall protection
Next-Generation Firewall to earn the NSS
Labs “Recommend” rating,; this means our
Next-Generation Firewall technology is the
leading one today.
* What is your message to the market
- The consumerization of IT t is happening.
There are some clear benefits, however,
every organization needs and requirements
differ from one to another ; so
before organizations embrace everything,
they need to look at what the requirements
are, for which group of users, what
are the security challenges that would
come with this and put into place the right
network security solutions and policies.
