Level crossing
With barrier – a filigree eyecatcher
At level crossings between roads and railways
safety has top priority. Therefore, even in the early
years, level crossings were equipped not only
with simple barriers, but also with chains or rods
hanging from the booms. The purpose of these
barrier skirts is to prevent pedestrians, animals
and vehicles from passing under the lowered
barriers.
The Viessmann product range already has included
half-barriers equipped only with simple
boom barriers for several years, now this is extended
with the new barriers with barrier skirts.
The prototype is a modern electrical barrier with
a mechanical acoustic warning signal, which is
included as a dummy on the model.
As this type of barrier fully closes the road, it has
to be supervised by radar, cameras, or by railway
staff from a nearby signal box.
The Viessmann model has a regulated drive,
which enables a realistically slow opening and
closing of the barriers. It can be controlled manually
or automatically with the use of rail contacts.
Viessmann offers the required components,
there is even a sound module to provide the
authentic warning bell sounds, item 5556.
The installation is remarkably easy. To install the
drive into the layout, the usual 1,3 cm hole has to
be drilled, the drive inserted into it, and fastened
with a clip from below. Planks and asphalt pieces
are available to close the gaps and connect the
crossing to the road, and various warnings signs
are included to inform the drivers early about the
level crossing.
A signalman‘s house is not included, but you can
find suitable signal boxes in the kibri and Vollmer
product range.
Level crossings are basically dangerous places.
Therefore, a suitable lighting also has its place.
The Viessmann swan neck lamps provide the
necessary illumination for the evening and nightly
hours.
The default asphalt pieces are designed for a right
angle crossing, but you can create a crossing at
any angle thanks to the various kibri planks and
asphalt pieces, as can be seen on the pictures.
Multi-lane roads are also easily constructed.
