1 BACKGROUND<br />

Meadowbank Substation provides electricity supply to customers connected in the Gretna, Hamilton, Bothwell, Ouse and<br />

Oatlands areas. In addition, the substation provides a connection point for power generated from Meadowbank Power<br />

Station. The majority of 110 kV assets in service at Meadowbank Substation were installed when the substation was<br />

commissioned in 1963. Figure 1 presents an image of Meadowbank Substation.<br />

2 PROJECT OVERVIEW<br />

The planned redevelopment of Meadowbank Substation includes the replacement of 110 kV circuit breakers, voltage<br />

transformers and post insulators and protection and control equipment. The redevelopment will address safety issues and<br />

improve the reliability of electricity supply by replacing assets that are in poor condition and susceptible to failure.<br />

This project includes the following major works at Meadowbank Substation:<br />

� replacement of Reyrolle type 110/OS/10 110 kV circuit breakers;<br />

� replacement of Balteau type UEV110 and Ducon type PD 110 kV voltage transformers;<br />

� installation of 110 kV voltage transformers on each transmission line;<br />

� refurbish and retain the ABB, Stanger and Switchgear Pty Ltd disconnectors;<br />

� replacement of multi-piece post insulators;<br />

� replacement of the 110 kV Tarraleah – Meadowbank transmission line protection;<br />
