Installing the <strong>OfficeScan</strong> Client<br />

To install from the web install page, you need the following:<br />

• Internet Explorer with the security level set to allow ActiveX controls. The<br />

required versions are as follows:<br />

• 6.0 on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003<br />

• 7.0 on Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008<br />

• 8.0 on Windows 7<br />

• Administrator privileges on the computer<br />

Send the following instructions to users to install the <strong>OfficeScan</strong> client from the web<br />

install page. To send a client installation notification through email, see Initiating<br />

Browser-based Installation on page 4-14.<br />

To install from the web install page:<br />

1. Log on to the computer using a built-in administrator account.<br />

Note: For Windows 7 platforms, you have to enable the built-in administrator account<br />

first. Windows 7 disables the built-in administrator account by default. For more<br />

information, refer to the Microsoft support site<br />

(http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd744293%28WS.10%29.aspx).<br />

2. If installing to a computer running Windows XP, Vista, Server 2008, or 7, perform<br />

the following steps:<br />

a. Launch Internet Explorer and add the <strong>OfficeScan</strong> server URL (such as<br />

https://:4343/officescan) to the list<br />

of trusted sites. In Windows XP Home, access the list by going to Tools ><br />

Internet Options > Security tab, selecting the Trusted Sites icon, and<br />

clicking Sites.<br />

b. Modify the Internet Explorer security setting to enable Automatic prompting<br />

for ActiveX controls. On Windows XP, go to Tools > Internet Options ><br />

Security tab, and click Custom level.<br />
