RUTH ANDERSSON MAY, of Dallas, is an artist and conservationist who has painted over 500<br />

watercolors of wildflowers, including many from East Texas (Fig. 165). With formal training<br />

in both natural history and art and a love for wildflowers, she brings a special perspective<br />

to her art. Her work has been exhibited at numerous places, including the Rancho Santa<br />

Ana Botanic Garden, the National Tropical <strong>Botanical</strong> Garden, and the San Antonio <strong>Botanical</strong><br />

Center and is on permanent display at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center and the<br />

<strong>Botanical</strong> <strong>Research</strong> Institute of Texas. She has been a prime force in maintaining and protecting<br />

Harry S. Moss Park in Dallas and has received awards for the implementation of educational<br />

programs at Moss Park through which children learn about native wildflowers.<br />

JANE MOLPUS, an artist residing in Fort Worth, has produced numerous paintings of botanical<br />

subjects (Fig. 166). As a board member of the <strong>Botanical</strong> <strong>Research</strong> Institute of Texas, she has<br />

contributed a variety of botanical art for use by the Institute.<br />

GERALDINE WATSON, botanist, writer, and conservationist, is a native of the Big Thicket. She lives<br />

near Silsbee and maintains the Watson Pinelands Preserve, which is dedicated to preserving<br />

a portion of the diversity of the Big Thicket. Watson has devoted much of her life to<br />

protecting the Big Thicket, with efforts ranging from identifying and collecting plants for<br />

the University of Texas at Austin and the National Park Service to her many publications
