It has become increasingly clear that Southern Baptists must not only
accept the seminary status of the Baptist Bible Institute, but must establish
this rating as a permanent and obvious fact in the life of the institution.
RECOMMENDATIONS
In their annual meeting of February 13, 1946, after one year of careful
study, the Board of Trustees of the Baptist Bible Institute unanimously and
heartily recommend that the Southern Baptist Convention adopt the following
motion, as required by Article XI of the Charter of the Baptist Bible Institute,
Inc.
"The Southern Baptist Convention, in annual meeting assembled, does
hereby consent that Article I of the Charter of the Baptist Bible Institute, Inc.,
in the City of New Orleans and State of Louisiana, be amended so as to read as
follows:
Article I
"The name and title of this corporation shall be the NEW ORLEANS BAP­
TIST THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY, and by that name and title it shall have
and enjoy succession and existence for the term of ninety-nine years from the
date of this act of incorporation; unless duly dissolved by a vote representing
two-thirds of its members present at any special meeting held for that purpose,
after sixty calendar days' notice by mail to each member at his last known
address."
The Baptist Bible Institute Quartette sang: "Blessed Is He That
Readeth" (Coleman) and "Only Trusting Jesus" (McKinney).
Chaplain Felix Arnold, Mississippi, sang "The Stranger of
Galilee."
59. The report of the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary,
presented by President E. D. Head, was adopted after remarks by
G. Kearnie Keagan, California, and Frank K. Means of the Seminary
faculty.

ANNUAL REPORT

Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary was chartered March 14, 1908.
It functioned on the campus of Baylor University until the summer of 1910,
when it was moved to Fort Worth, Texas. Dr. B. H. Carroll, founder and
fi st president, served the institution until his death November 11, 1914. In
February, 1915, Dr. L. R. Scarborough came to the presidency, and continued
in this capacity until his retirement in August, 1942. In 1915 the two new
departments of Sacred Music and Religious Education were added. These were
enlarged into the Schools of Sacred Music and Religious Education in 1921.
Hence the Seminary came into full capacity for the training of a leadership for
all phases of church life.
As we come to the close of the thirty-eighth year of the history of Southwestern
Baptist Theological Seminary, we are inexpressibly grateful to God
for His providential direction. These have been years of His right hand.
Through sunshine and shadow, sorrow and song, blood, sweat, and tears, He
has brought us to a high point of vantage.
The enrollment for the session 1945-46 has reached an all-time record of
1,195, exceeding the total for the previous year by 120. When considered by
schools, we find 658 in the School of Theology—624 men and 34 women; 486
