FIELD WORK
The field program of The Sunday School Department is made in co-operati
with the state Sunday school secretaries. Through voluntary co-operation The
Sunday School Department of the Sunday School Board and the state Sunday
school departments work together in all field engagements. The major field
engagements are along the following lines: Association-wide and individual
church enlargement campaigns; association-wide inside enlargement campaigns;
association-wide and individual church Better Bible Teaching schools; association-wide
training schools; special Vacation Bible school conferences; participation
in state Sunday school conventions, conferences, and assemblies; special
state tours in co-operation with the state Sunday school secretaries for the
promotion of particular phases of Sunday school work.
THE SUNDAY SCHOOL BUILDER
The Sunday School Builder is a forty-eight page promotional magazine. I
purpose is to present all phases of Sunday school work in a practical way.
Part of the space is devoted to the work of general Sunday school officers,
and part of it is used to provide help for the several age groups in a Sunday
school.
One section of the magazine is used to carry the Scripture text, a brief
comment, and practical applications. In connection with each lesson there is a
suggested program for use in Sunday schools that function by classes.
Mr. J. C. Hockett, Jr., and Miss Emma Noland are Associate Editors of The
Sunday School Builder.
The circulation of the Builder at the present time is approximately 87,000
copies per month, which is an increase of about 12,000 copies per month over
the past year.
PROMOTIONAL LITERATURE
The preparation of promotional literature on every phase of Sunday school
work and a wide distribution of these materials have been a major means of
providing helps for Southern Baptist Sunday school officers and teachers. The
Sunday School Department issues and distributes approximately 260 separate
pieces of promotional literature.
Mr. William P. Phillips, Superintendent of Adult Sunday School Work, has
recently prepared three leaflets which seem to be meeting a very definite need
in the Sunday school work of the churchs. These leaflets are:
"Every Boy Needs a Man"
"Promoting Adults in the Sunday School"
"Grading Adults in the Sunday School"
CALENDAR OF SUNDAY SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
Each year a Calendar of Sunday School Activities is prepared for the
guidance of associational Sunday school officers, pastors, educational directors.
and Sunday school superintendents.
The Calendar carries information arranged by months, on the following:
Sunday school lesson titles; weekly themes; church activities; associational
work; denominational emphases.
The general materials and department programs in The Sunday School
Builder and the magazine sections of the teachers' periodicals stem from the
themes carried in the Calendar.
OFFICE PROMOTION
The editorial and promotional work done in the office constitutes a maj
ministry of The Sunday School Department. An office personnel of twenty-eight
people is kept busy answering requests from the churches, mailing out litera-
