two encampments held for young people, and we feel it will be true of the
other. After attending classes on soul winning, Bible study, methods, and
listening to evangelistic sermons around the campfires, many of our young
people have accepted Christ, and some have dedicated themselves for special
service.
The Sunday School Department, directed by Rev. Howard Bryant, helps to
bring to pass these encampments. The regular activities of these groups are
carried on during the year.
EDUCATION
Colegio Bautista
Miss Agnes Graham, the director of our school in Temuco, reports:
"Colegio Bautista has had a very successful year from the intellectual and
spiritual standpoints; for in spite of the soaring costs of living, our four hundred
students followed their courses in a normal way, not realizing materially our
school's financial crisis. For this we offer a sincere expression of gratitude
to the Foreign Mission Board and to the Woman's Missionary Union in its
Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.
"Spiritually we have not been handicapped by the crisis, but we have felt
drawn nearer to Him who knows no crisis. As has been our custom for several
years, we had our fall revival in April. Oscar Docmac and his wife—two of
our graduates of the Seminary and Training School—led our meeting. The
response to the appeals of these two fine young Christians was splendid. About
seventy-five students took a stand for Christ. The second revival of the year
was led by Rev. and Mrs. C. H. McConnell. The results of this revival were
equally gratifying.
"The School, in its Bible classes, daily chapel hours, and the two revivals,
has made an extra effort to help the churches in their goal to win a thousand
souls for Jesus in Chile in this centennial year of our Southern Baptist Convention.
May the million souls for Christ be won in the homeland as well as
many thousands for him around the world is our prayer."
Training School
Miss Ethel Singleton is directing the Training School activities in the
absence x)f Miss Ogburn. She writes:
"The Training School in Santiago is just four years old. This year we had
eight students, three of whom graduated, making a total of seven graduates
thus fsr
"We were fortunate in having secured the help of Rebeca Portflitt, one of
our first graduates, to serve as secretary and librarian. Her influence among
the students has been an inspiration to all. We thank God for her consecrated
life and the service she is rendering to the work of the school and to the
churches in Santiago. , . . . , „ ,.
"Training School girls are always in demand in the churches in bantiago,
and* during their vacations they are busy in Bible schools, encampments, and
all phases of our work. Their report of practical activities is one of thrilling
experiences and untold blessings. We ask your continued prayers as we carry
on this work of training young women for more effective service, especially
among the women and children in Chile.
Baptist Theological Seminary
The seminary school year began with five young men and one married
couple enrolled in the regular courses. However, one other man and ******
of a student attended classes without receiving credit. Of this group, Hermes
