The Education Commission conducted a conference in Memphis preceding
the meeting of the Executive Board of the Convention in order to ascertain
the attitude of representative educators, pastors, and laymen regarding the
services of the Commission. A careful study of the work of the Commission
was presented to the special Survey Committee of the Executive Board o± the
Convention. This was in response to a list of questions submitted by the burvey
Committee. No definite amount was agreed upon after two conferences ol
representatives of the Education Commission and the Survey Committee and
the Administrative Committee. A request was submitted for an amount sufficient
to employ an Executive Secretary and an office secretary in addition to
providing for travel and office expense. Since the Commission has never had a
paid secretary and staff the amount suggested ($17,500) was such an increase
over the $4,800 now required for expenses that no decision was reached at
the last meeting. The following resolution expressed the sentiment by unanimous
vote of college presidents, pastors and laymen m the Christian Education
Conference sponsored by the Education Commission:

the stern necessity and the supreme difficulty of. finding the way to universal

World citizenship is the ultimate objective and democracy is the form ol
government control that will work in realizing that objective.
Christianity alone can provide the underlying motive, the true working
principle, that conditions the establishment and maintenance of a democratic
world order in which justice and righteousness are to prevail.
Historically and factually Christian education and the Christian college of
Liberal Arts are the tested and proven principal sources of supply of leadership
for ou? churches and for those areas of human activity and human affairs
that are most essential and influential for human betterment and welfare
Southern Baptists in their Centennial Crusade and other evangelical bodies
in like Sion C e ^dedicated themselves and redoubled their efforts and
Si cooperatrve Baptist organizations, institutions, agencies and individuals
are urged to enlisfwholehlartedly in the campaign to proclaim and promote
the Christian way of life for all men everywhere.
In furtherance of the preeminently useful and influential part Baptists
have played in forming and fashioning the principles and the practices of freedom
in Hbertv-loving America and in keeping with the universal validity and
