cation Commission which, after an address by R. Paul Caudill, Tennessee,
was adopted:

PART I
In this, the eighteenth report of the Education Commission of the Southe
Baptist Convention, it is necessary to give a more comprehensive as well as
more detailed report than is usually given. This is true because of many
changes in our Baptist schools and colleges brought about by war and by conditions
following the war. Also, since this is the first time since 1943 that
the Convention has been permitted to meet, it is the duty of the Commission to
report activities undertaken and carried out during the intervening period.
All of the five functions of the Commission have been faithfully performed
during this period by the active cooperation of sub-committees.
The five functions are as follows:
(1) Reports and Programs, (2) Christian Educational Standards, (3)
Publicity and Information Service, (4) ^Survey and Educational Institutional
Analysis, and (5) Interrelationships.
Each of these sub-committees works in connection with the Chairman of
the Commission whose office serves as a central agency for the assembly of all
educational information and consequently the source upon which all educational
institutions, boards, conventions, associations, and churches may call for
educational information.
REPORTS AND PROGRAMS
Reports are assembled from all Baptist schools and colleges twice each
year, once in the fall, again in the spring. The fall report includes enrollment,
improvements made during the summer, endowment raised, departments added
or changed, new degrees offered, varying requirements for graduation, tuition
and fees changes, debts (if any) retired, and plans for the year. The spring
report includes any changes made during the year in items included in the fall
report and, in addition, the report of co-operation of churches, associations,
and conventions in raising funds through the budget or by other plans. Donations
of money, land, buildings, libraries, and other valuable assets are listed.
A comprehensive report based upon reports from all schools is then prepared
and presented to the Southern Baptist Convention.
Programs are prepared by the Commission for use of state, district, and
county associations. Many pastors, especially among the larger churches have
come to rely upon the Education Commission for suggested programs and for
