Acetyl chloride converts it into <strong>the</strong> monaeetate CMHUO2.C8S8O, and<br />

nascent hydrogen into hydrobenzoin.<br />

Stitbene Glycot.—This fourth isomeric glycol is formed toge<strong>the</strong>r, -with<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r products, when benzoin is heated with alcoholic potash. It<br />

crystallizes in four-sided flat prisms, melting at 132°. Acetyl chloride<br />

converts it into <strong>the</strong> diacetate CyHj^OCjHjO)^ forming colourless<br />

needles melting at 135°.<br />
