MAGNOLIA - MAGNOLIA - MAGNOLIACEAE<br />

´Galaxy´ -<br />

____ A vigorous and rigidly upright growing hybrid, originating from<br />

the US National Aboretum and made available in the market in<br />

1980; leaves up to 22 cm long, dark green, with a bluish-green<br />

tinge on the underside’ flowers dark reddish purple as a bud, but<br />

in blossom light reddish purple outside and light purplish pink<br />

inside, up to 25 cm in size, slightly fragrant, with 11 to 12 petals,<br />

slightly to deeply twisted, stamens and pistils are purple. A<br />

beauty amongst the tree-like magnolias. S. Zone 6b.<br />

´George Henry Kern´ -<br />

____ Slow and compact-growing; flowers very attractively formed, 8 to<br />

10 petals, lilac outside, white within, appearing in May - smallest<br />

and most delicate of all magnolias. S. Zone 6a.<br />

´Heaven Scent´ - Magnolia NEW!<br />

____ A sturdy, upright-growing shrub or small tree; leaves broadly<br />

elliptic, dark green; flowers large, abundant, white outside and<br />

pink within, appearing end of April to May - a Gresham-hybird<br />

with very large and fine flowers. S. Zone 6b.<br />

kobus - Kobus Magnolia<br />

____ A tree or shrub with broadly pyramidal or rounded crown; leaves<br />

medium-large, 6 to 17 cm long, ovate and pointed at leaf tip, light<br />

green, glaucous undersides; flowers white, appearing before or<br />

together with shoot break, 10 cm across; fruits cylindrical, red<br />

- a valuable, hardy magnolia for large areas, parks and streets.<br />
