RHUS - SUMACH - ANACARDIACEAE<br />

aromatica ´Grow Low´ - Fragrant Sumac<br />

____ A summergreen shrub, about 0.6 m tall and 2 to 2.5 m wide.<br />

Leaves shiny dark green, 3-lobed, toothed edge, 5-6 cm long,<br />

6-7 cm wide, turning a lovely orange-red in autumn. Flowers yellowish<br />

appearing in April/May. A distinctive plant for borders with<br />

woody plants; withstands drought and is very hardy. The new<br />

shoots provides a fresh, spicy fragrance. Excellent as a ground<br />

cover.B,D, St. Zone 4.<br />

typhina - Stag´s Horn Sumach<br />

____ 4 to 5 m tall shrub or small tree, with thick shoots, multiple<br />

stems, loosely branched; building suckers; shoots are covered<br />

with dense, reddish-bronze hairs; leaves pinnate, up to 40 cm<br />

long, with bright scarlet red to orange autumn colours; flowers<br />

greenish in dense, terminal panicles; red fruits equally packed<br />

in dense, club-shaped panicles - an undemanding, ornamental<br />

specimen plant that adapts well to calcareous sites. K, S, St.<br />

Zone 6a.<br />

typhina ´Laciniata´ (= ´Dissecta´) -<br />

____ Slower-growing than the species, up to 3 m tall; leaves pinnate,<br />

finely dissected and almost fern-like, with remarkable, lovely autumn<br />

colours - a striking, ornamental shrub. K, S, St. Zone 6a.<br />

alpinum ´Schmidt´ - Mountain Currant<br />

____ A selection, up to 2 m tall, with an upright, densely bushy and<br />

compact-growing habit, with bowing shoots; foliage healthy, having<br />

an early shoot break, often remaining on tree till winter, turning<br />

yellow in autumn - tolerates shade; suitable for undergrowth<br />

planting, mass planting and hedging. Was awarded „Good“ in<br />

2000 during the federal cultivar trials in Germany. B, H. Zone 3.<br />
