____ An especially lovely, early-flowering cultivar, somewhat more
attractive than the species; scales of flowering buds opens as
early as November/December and then fall off; the silvery catkins,
up to 5 cm long, contrast effectively with the bronze-dark
red shoots - a top cultivar for wreaths and bouquets. S. Zone 3.
cinerea - Grey Willow
____ 2 to 5 m tall, dense and broad, almost semi-circular growing,
large shrub; catkins appear before leaf break, male caktkins
egg-shaped, orange to yellow, appearing in April/May; leaves
changeable, cloudy grey above, and lower surface covered with
bluish felt - a woody plant found in primary vegetation, suitable
for all moist positions, hedgerows, riverbankvegetation or for
ground reinforcements. R. Zone 4.

matsudana ´Tortuosa´, but with broader crown and striking golden
yellow to orange, widely arching and overhanging branches
and shoots; shoots are like twisted corkscrews, growing loosely
and in a zig-zag manner; leaves elongated to lanceolate, and
equally twisted - a decorative specimen plant, with an exceptional
effect especially in winter. S. Zone 5a.
helvetica (= S. nivea) - Swiss Sallow
____ Up to 50 cm tall shrub with elongated to elliptical leaves, covered
with white felt; catkins 3 to 5 cm long, appear shortly before the
leaves - an attractive plant for rock gardens. K, Z. Zone 4.
integra ´Hakuro-Nishiki´ (= S. i. ´Albomaculata´) -
____ A medium-tall shrub with orange-bronze to red-coloured shoots
especially in winter; leaves narrow, thin, sprinkled with green,
white and pink - an extraordinary, striking, gracious, and hardy
willow, especially effective in shady areas. K, S, St. Zone 5b.
