____ A creeping dwarf cultivar, up to 30 cm tall with regularly protruding<br />

branches, and a regular, rounded, up to 1.5 m wide, cushion-like<br />

growing habit; foliage very soft and growing closely together,<br />

green and silvery-striped on the upper surface - a lovely,<br />

healthy and tolerant cultivar. B, D, K, St, Z. Zone 3.<br />

communis ´Suecica´ (= J. suecica, J. communis var. suecica) - Swedish Juniper<br />

____ Grows up to 10 m tall, with broad, stiff and upward striving, column-like<br />

growth and hanging twig ends; foliage piercing and<br />

light green - a hardy, wild hybrid from Scandinavia. D, St. Zone<br />

____ An especially hardy wild hybrid, selected in Sweden, differs from<br />

the species due to its more slender growing habit; plant is stable<br />

and is avoided by wild animals - a valuable improvement to the<br />

communis ´Suecica Nana´ (= J. communis columnaris) -<br />

____ Up to 1.5 m tall and about 30 cm wide, slender, column-likegrowing<br />

with flat top, ascending branches and shoots; foliage<br />

short, with bluish-white stripes above and bluish-green beneath<br />

- differs from ´Compressa´ especially in its faster growth and<br />

frost-hardiness. D, K, St, Z. Zone 4.<br />

horizontalis ´Andorra Compact´ -<br />

____ An American selection, almost similar to ´Plumosa´ except for<br />

its denser, almost pillow-like growing habit and the narrower foliage;<br />

grows to about 30 to 40 cm tall and about 1 m wide - an<br />

excellent ground cover for open areas. B, K, St, Z. Zone 5a.<br />

horizontalis ´Blue Chip´ -<br />

____ Branches spreading flatly, shoot ends slightly ascending, foliage<br />

lovely silvery blue in summer and slightly violet in winter - a<br />

good-growing and healthy ground cover with the most intensive<br />

blue-coloured foliage; often sold under the false name of ´Blue<br />

Moon´. B, K, St, Z. Zone 5a.<br />
