____ A new, upright-growing, hardy cultivar, resistant to fire blight and
scab, with tight and erect main branches, and more or less horizontally
growing side shoots, reaching about 4 m tall and 3 m
wide after 12 years; leaves lanceolate to elliptic, up to 4.5 cm
long and 1.5 cm wide, yellowish-green above and green underneath;
very free-flowering, inflorescence consisting of 20 to 35
flowers, appearing in May; fruits yellowish-red, 5 to 7 mm long,
up to 30 in a cluster, ripening from mid-October and hanging
through the winter - due to its erect growing habit, suitable for
free-growing or clipped hedges. D, H, K, R, S, St. Zone 7a.

____ A very healthy selection from the USA, reaching about 12 m tall
and 4 m wide, with a narrow, rounded crown; leaves broadly
oval, up to 8 cm long, leathery, very glossy dark green above,
turning splendidly red to glossy scarlet red in autumn; foliage
remains till deep in the winter; insensitive to fire blight and very
tolerant to air pollution - a very good flowering tree with a narrow
crown, that roots well even in heavy soils. S. Zone 5a.
