____ An evergreen, 3 to 4 m tall, strong-growing shrub with somewhat<br />

stiff branches; leaves large, lanceolate, glossy green, wrinkled;<br />

flowers creamy white, already formed as buds and cleary visable<br />

in autumn, blooming in May/June in flat, 10 to 20 cm wide,<br />

umbel-like trusses; fruits 8 mm long, polished black - a woody<br />

plant suitable as specimen or for planting in groups for fresh<br />

soils in semi-shady positions. H, R, S, St. Zone 6b.<br />

when young, later bronze-green; inflorescences in 5 to 12 cm<br />

wide, flat corymbs, buds red, creamy white to pale pink when<br />

blooming, appearing end of May to early June - selected in 1959<br />

by D.R. EGOLF, US National Arboretum - a striking, dark-leaved<br />

shrub, with very contrasting flowers, effective when combined<br />

with yellow-leaved woody plants, very hardy, and suitable for all<br />

winter-flowering shrub for protected sites, especially lovely as<br />
