terminalis ´Green Carpet´® - Japanese Spurge ´Green Carpet´®
____ A rather low-growing ground cover due to its regular, compact
smaller, finely toothed and darker green - a significant improvement
on the species as a low-growing ground cover for very
shady positions. B, R, Z. Zone 6a.
tomentosa (= P. imperialis, P. tomentosa var. lanata, P. japonica, P. recurva, Bignonia tomentosa) - Fowglove tree, Imperial Paulownia
____ A 15 to 20 m tall tree with a wide crown. Leaf shoots in the juvenile
stage are very thick, but thinner in later years. Leaves are
ovate, large and broad, hairy, up to 40 cm long, light to middle
green, undersides glaucous, falling very late in the season with
no change in colours in autumn. Inflorescence is a club-shaped
panicle, about 30 cm long, individual flowers bell-shaped, violetblue
with yellow striped throat. Fruits are hard capsules, greyish
brown, oval and pointed, as large as a walnut, staying still
next spring on tree. An extraordinary specimen tree for gardens,
parks and roads on sunny but protected areas. S, R, St. Zone
