____ 2 to 3 m tall, upright-growing shrub with slender, glabrous,<br />

loosely overhanging shoots; leaves full green, appear early in<br />

the season, mostly pinnate with 5 leaflets; flowers appearing in<br />

April/May, yellowish-green, borne in dense panicles along the<br />

previous year´s shoots; fruits scarlet red, 5 mm, from July and<br />

hang till winter - an undergrowth that is very tolerant to shady<br />

sites. R. Zone 4.<br />

____ An evergreen, dioecious, up to 1 m tall, broadly bushy, dense<br />

shrub; leaves leathery, up to 12 cm long and glossy, carried at<br />

in 5 to 8 cm long panicles; fruits numerous, round,<br />

bright red - a lovely flowering and fruiting shrub, suitable as a<br />

specimen or for planting in groups in protected sites. B, R, St,<br />

japonica ´Rubella´ -<br />

____ An evergreen, up to 1 m tall, bushy shrub with dark green, shiny<br />

leaves, leaf stalks and veins mainly red-coloured; striking<br />

bronze-red buds, that appear in autumn and winter; white-pink<br />

flowers in April/May - a male cultivar with attractive buds and<br />

inflorescences. B, R, St, Z. Zone 7a.<br />

nice green leaves up to 30 cm long, unpaired pinnate; white<br />

flowers appearing in June/July, borne in 10 to 25 cm long, upright<br />

panicles - an especially early breaking shrub, suitable for<br />
