fruits round, leathery bronze - an extraordinary tree, tolerant to<br />

____ A large shrub, 3 to 5 m tall, upright-growing, with thick, glabrous<br />

sprigs; leaves pinnate, decorative, about 50 cm long, early<br />

sprouting in April, bluish-green, turning golden green to yellow<br />

in autumn around end of October; fruits are fleshy, bean-like,<br />

appearing September to October, deep cobalt blue turning black<br />

when ripe, edible, very sticky – a very striking cultivar, growing<br />

to a thicket, and requiring a warmth; for protected areas and not<br />

too heavy soils. S. Zone 7a.<br />
